You run in an attempt to take advantage of the defense who thinks you might be passing. You also run in that situation if you're backed up in your own territory. And yet again, you run in that situation if you feel your biggest strength is your running game. Oh, and again, you run in that situation if you feel it would be dangerous to throw a medium-range pass (15+), which makes perfect sense if the defense is playing the pass. That's why you see short passes to Smith and running plays as they are much safer and you have a pretty good chance of actually picking up the first down or getting close.

It's almost pathetic how many people keep blaming Jake. No, it's not Jake. Why? Fox might not be the brightest coach in history, but he's also not a complete retard. If he felt Jake was truly playing that horrible he would pull him. The crap he says (like "Jake will always be the starting QB") is merely to give Jake a boost as well as not to cause any conflict. If he said "well if Jake has another bad game, I'll..." it would just open up a can of worms.
