Offensive Tackle Depth

The FO definitely addressed Tackle depth this offseason.

The only guy it looks like we need to replace is Oher in regards to the Tackle position. Kalil and Williams both have experience starting in the league, and we just drafted a guy with a ton of potential in Moton this year. If Oher isn't coming back, and it's looking more and more likely that that is the case, then we just need one more guy with experience at the position or a young guy with potential and we'll be good. That's just my opinion though. You generally won't have pro bowlers backing up your starters.

Starters would be Kalil and Williams/Moton

Backup is Williams/Moton + TBD.

That's not bad depth.

I agree! I'm thrilled with the addition of Kalil and Moton! Williams hasn't exactly made himself stand out, but I like him as a reserve. Hopefully Kalil and Moton play all 19 games! Bringing in veteran competition or taking a chance on a former second rounder Kouandjio, in place of Oher is a certainly won't hurt.

Without a doubt the tackle depth needs to be addressed. I totally agree with you, even if a trade is the only way. As far as guards, I do like the guys on the roster. Turner and Norwell don't have much of a history with injuries. Scott is a solid backup, Silatalou is a question because of injury issues. Also, Gradkowski can swing to guard if need be.

I just remember Norwell going down against the Broncos and we couldn't hold it together. In a broader sense I would like to see our line get bigger and more physical. Let our big guys grind on the defense so Mcaffrey can use his athleticism to beat the little guys.

Last year was horrible for the OL as far as injuries go. Hopefully the guys can stay healthy this year, the same five start all season.

Totally agree we need depth at tackle if Oher is done, as seems extremely likely.  I am not comfortable with us going into the season with only Matt Kalil, Williams, Moton and one of the journeymen / UDFAs on our roster as our tackles. ( I do remember some report from OTAs that one of the tackles we signed as a future contract was looking good in LT drills, but don't remember who it was.  But OTAs are not NFL games.  We need another tackle with experience playing LT.  Gonna be hard to find and could be costly.)

Oddly enough, I just watched the Blindside for the first time recently on my long (9 1/2 hour) flight back to Charlotte.  (I miss a lot of movies being in Africa most of the time!)  I'd love to see a happy ending to Michael Oher's story.  I wish it could be on the field with the Panthers, ending with a Super Bowl ring.  But most important is his health and future.  I'm pretty sure the best thing he can do now is retire.  I'm glad at least that apart from his injury, his time with the Panthers has been positive and that he helped us get to SB 50. I'll always remember him as a player who made a difference in shoring up our line and allowing Cam to shine so brightly... T

Don't think we need added depth at guard.  With Scott, Silatolu, Moton, Larsen & Yankey I think we have good depth at guard.  (I assume Larsen makes the roster at the expense of Gradkowski.   Not sure if we keep Yankey, but it's not out of the question, depends on how we're using Moton.)

Yep. We need one mor tackle IMHO. That player might be one of guys we've had on PS or who gets released. Actually, Clady's still a FA but I don't think he wants to be a cheap backup and his knees may be gone.

This is where Gettleman will sit him out.  The closer it gets the season the lower the contract will be.  I am sure they exploring all options.

To be fair haven't the police found most of us naked in a field at least once in our lives. Judging by some of the post on here I would venture to say some more than once.

it all depends on what is in said field with you if there is an issue or not.

So when they signed Kalil and drafted Moton, they weren't addressing the tackle positions?

You don't think it'd be wise to grab one more tackle to take Oher's spot? I most certainly do. They've addressed it, yes, but Kalil isn't a sure-fire winner and Moton may need time. I'd prefer another solid vet just to make sure the season doesn't fall apart.

Well if there is a vet out that who fits that description and the Panthers decide to make a move, that's fine, but this guy ain't him and they did address the position. It's not like the 31 other teams out there have starting caliber tackles as back ups either though. And if they do, they're sure as hell not giving them away.

We are in agreement now.
