Maclin or Decker?

Depth & Talent at WR corp is at all time high , depth at TE not so much ( Scott Smionson could be a sleeper)

What depth at WR? We have POTENTIAL at WR, but right now KB is our only real proven NFL WR. Funchess hasn't amounted to anything so far, Samuel is a rookie, Shephard is a career special teamer, and Johnson is just a shot in the dark. The rest of the WR corps is basically camp fodder.

I highly doubt we pursue either Maclin or Decker, but I would love it if we did.

I'd take Maclin over any receiver on our roster not named KB, or Curtis Samuel. I still have a good amount of faith Funchess will develop so I'd like that group as our top 4 guys.

Eric DEcker is another big slower receiver, and we're trying to get away from that by adding speed. So for me Maclin would provide a reliable no. 2 or even no.1 opposite KB. Picturing that with Samuel and McCaffrey as the newest additions, with Olsen and Stewart we'd have arguably the best all around skill group in the NFL.

Panthers are a balanced team where offense is run through RB/TE combo then spreads out to  the WRs.  We don't need deep WR corp like Giants, the group we have now is the best so far and is actually complimentary to the system and players.

1A - Olsen

1B -J-Stew

2A -KB

2B - Samuels

3A - CMC

3C - Funchess

4 - Ross

Has the offense been ran through TEs and RBs by choice or by necessity? Olsen has been our best receiver for years and he happens to be a TE. Ships has used the #2 TE almost exclusively has an extra blocker. I honestly dpnt understand why we didnt simply run more tackle eligible plays if we were going to go that route.

If healthy, either Decker or Maclin would be a significant upgrade for us as a starting WR.

Little bit of both but if you have a 2nd  TE that can actually block and have decent hands you want tip off the Defesne that's it's a running play and keep them guessing every snap vs having a extra tackle. The addition of McCaffrey and Samuels should spread the field where defenses can't consistently have 8 man box to stop the run game and this will open up the outside running lanes  as well

Seattle ran a smiliar offense when they won the SB well as Pats

they had beast mode with a good runblocking OL with 2TEs (Wilson & McDonald)

1 big WR (Sidney Rice)   and small shifty WR like Baldwin
