Cam has never been without Shula who was his quarterback coach and would have advising him to work the whole field and dump it off. I wonder if calling more screens had to do with a better offensive line that could get out in space and had receivers like Steve Smith who were beasts as downfield blockers.

I assumed it was Stewie having to stay in and block more often than not behind a weak Oline. But the drop off can't be blamed completely on the OL, the playcalling is terribly suspect as well.

My biggest worry is Shula abandons the changes if they don't work right away.

my biggest worry is that the Shula hate will blow past 11 and straight to 12 if they don't work right away.

Boggles me how many people on here think they know more about being an OC than someone who has spent his entire professional life around the game.  It's unreal how much poo that guy gets from results oriented fans who have next to zero data on why decisions are made.

I would never claim to be able to work the X's and O's remotely close to that of a pro coordinator.  However, I can tell the difference between a good situational call and a bad one.  How is it that the casual fan can see a Shula call coming?  If we can, I guarantee the opposition can.

Unlike people on this board, Shula has and continues to fail at every level of professional and college football, and is only coaching because his dad won't let him work at the steakhouses.

but we don't know why a call was made, only that you predicted it and the results of that singular play. you don't know what personnel situations or long term game planning is involved, just reacting to a singular event in a long series. game planning for an entire game is not always about the result if a single play or part of a play.

The drop off in screens is likely a direct result of them  not working as well as in the past. As much as you may dislike Shula he is going to do what works. And obviously not do what isn't working. So you can speculate on the cause or causes but most times it is execution because on paper plays always look great. On film not so much. And the problem is 9 times out of 10 execution. Good or bad.....

Then why does he keep calling pass plays that take 10 seconds to develop?

That's actually pretty typical of a pure Coryell offense.

Mind you, I don't know if I'd still call us a pure Coryell (especially with all the read option bulls--t) but elements of it still run throughout the basic attack.
