The Jets had the audacity to reach out to Steve Smith Sr., and asked if he still wanted to play.

The New York Jets have cut ties with a number of veterans this offseason, but that didn't stop them from reaching out to Steve Smith.

The Jets contacted Smith to see if he was interested in playing this coming season, according to a report.

"Earlier today in the green room, Steve Smith Sr. was saying 'Hey, the Jets reached out to me,'" the NFL Network's Kimberly Jones explained. "Yes, the Jets reached out to Steve Smith, asked if he was still interested in playing. He indicated he wasn't."

Worst team in the NFL next season.  Book it.

I don't get the audacity part? Doesn't it make sense they explore all options?

Its not like the Jets are some mortal enemy of the Panthers, and even if they were, it wouldn't be a big deal because SS hasn't been a Panther for a long time.

I don't get it?

I guess because he is a retired vet that retired because he was tired of the grind and wear and tear as opposed to retiring because he couldn't find a team. Why would he subject himself to camp and a grueling season to play for a shitty team with a shitty QB. Its kind like asking him to come back for another 2010 season with Jimmy Clausen.

Edit: if he had any interest at all, it would be to play for a super bowl contender.

Who cares?  I might have the audacity to see if he wants to work in my warehouse.

Eh, it's the offseason.  There are way worse threads that don't have a damn thing to do with the Panthers (past or present) ha

That would make more sense if you said "SS has the audacity to sign with shitty team". But not for said shitty team to ask SS to play IMO.

I think it's mostly because the Jets are trash, and released all their good receivers like Decker (will happen this week), and Marshall.  To sign the oldest receiver in the League?  Come on.  That makes ZERO sense.

I think a lot of people would take an old ass Steve Smith over an old ass Marshall or a only good with Manning Decker.
