Ted Ginn Jr.

Recommended Posts

Like others, Brees provides good hope for a solid season from Ginn, and as a fan while he was here, he can, and will frustrate the fan base with his inconsistency, and he's only getting older, he is, what he is...a big play, or a big drop waiting to happen.

    • Doesn't mean it's not a hard catch, and the point still stands that a number of things going differently earlier in the game prevents it from coming down to that situation. No game is ever won/lost on a single play, call, etc. That's the reality. Players need to step up when circumstances require, and especially a highly-touted first rounder (albeit a decidedly raw one), but it's a bit silly to sit and drill XL for having a weakness that everyone already knows he had like it's the only way Carolina could have ever won. Bryce's interception was ugly and set up Philly for a TD before the half, at least it seems that way from  the highlights and gameflow since I wasn't able to watch, Elliott's miss that I already mentioned, etc. The team drafted XL knowing what his weaknesses are and they have died by the sword at times this year. All part of the growing pains.
    • Between 2013-2015 Ted Ginn had a 12.1% drop rate...To put that into perspective, going into Sunday's game, Legette had a drop rate of 6.8%--the eighth worst in the league.  I imagine it is over 8% after Sunday. I can tell you that WRs like baseball hitters and kickers go through slumps.  It is very mental.  Legette body catches--as opposed to reaching towards the ball and bringing it in.  Body catches are not clean catches--they must be secured after they are cradled-Legette's first drop is a demonstration of why they are not good.  The other issues are fixable.  The TD that was dropped was because he took a hand off the ball and tried to tuck it as he was going to the ground.  Never take the second hand off the ball when going to the ground. He will be OK--needs an offseason of catching jugs bullets in his entire radius, facing the machine, back to the machine, sides, etc.  He needs to practice catching passes on the run and he needs people hitting him with hand shields as the ball is approaching.  He needs confidence, and he seems to have lost it. Considering the market for free agent WRs and how unlikely a top one would want to come to Charlotte,  And when I consider the draft, I think we would be smart to draft a WR in the first round.  I think we need to use the rest of the draft on defense--but I would not be opposed to drafting a TE.
    • adding to this, Buffalo, Lions and KC are also all in the top 6 in terms of YAC.  that's the difference.  We put the ball in people's hands and that's the end of the play.  The good teams put the ball in the hands of their guys and the plays extend.  We basically play the game w/ TEs everywhere at this stage.  We have actual TEs.  Old WRs with great hands that really threatens like a TE downfield.  And a young WR who plays like a TE.   We need more diversity at WR.  We need some explosive quick feet.
