Sig doesn't charge for parking, just stayed there in April.

Good to know RE: The Sig.

Also in regards to Vdara, it is connected via an indoor walkway to Bellagio.  So you've got Aria a 3 minute walk away and Bellagio/Cosmo with easy access.  Also has the Bellagio tram station right behind the hotel.  Nice view of the fountain show from the room as well is you are on the back side of it.

Downside is the pool is not a party by any means and, unfortunately, you don't get access to the Aria pool unlike how staying at The Sig gets you access to all of the MGM Grand pools.  Also, no balconies at Vdara while Sig has them.  Possibly important if you like to smoke anything.

I've stayed at most of them, but Aria is by far my favorite.  It's beautiful all around.  Casino is great.  Shops are next level (if that's your thing).   Haven't been in a few years though.  Do yourself a favor and never ever stay at the Tropicana.

Cosmopolitan has been my favorite so far and it's right in the middle of the action but MGM has the best pool if you are looking for that. I like downtown Vegas but the smoke is overbearing in a lot of the casinos. Do yourself a favor, rent a car one day and get outside of the city some amazing hiking all around and you are within 4 hours of Joshua Tree, Zion, Death Valley, and Grand Canyon National Parks.

That being said I'll be back Oct 5th-9th and anyone else is out there and wants to watch the game against Detroit with some fellow fans.

This thread reminds me... when I'm back out there next month, I have to cash in that betting slip I'm holding on the Tar Heels NCAA championship. I've only bet on sports twice and so far I'm batting 1.000. Placed two bets that day. One for the Heels at 6:1 and one for the Panthers at 20:1. So, it's practically guaranteed that the Panthers are winning it all this year.

Love Alaska and Vegas. I'd move to Sitka and raise my family if I could. Got married in Vegas. It was dirt cheap and we were broke. Stayed at Aria - little too big and modern for me but very nice.  MGM but that was 10 years ago.  I really liked he Mirage all the way around - Casino, Pool, Room, and location. Also a big fan of the Beatles show Love. Any of the big Cirque shows are fun. Penn and Teller is really good too. They show up in the exit area after the show and hang out as long as there are people wanting to meet them and take photos.

I walked through the Tropicana and thought I was going get lung cancer.

<TL;DR warning>

All depends on what you're looking for and who's paying for it.

If the company is paying for it, then you really can't go wrong with the typical "corporate account" places (no particular order) of Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo, Mirage, Caesars, Bellagio, Cosmo, Aria, Mandalay.

If you're paying out of pocket, then as long as you appreciate the location and the rate then you can stay wherever makes the most sense to you. Westgate or Circus/Circus may not be the greatest rooms/location, but if the price is right you sleep where you can.

Buddy of mine stayed at Linq their opening weekend and said that "for the price, it was great" and he'd stay there again. (For the record... he hasn't).

My hotel opinion (again, no order):

  • Mandalay - great place, good food. BE PREPARED TO WALK, like, A LOT. If you're there for a convention, it's almost worth Uber'ing from the back parking deck around the building to the convention entrance. Phenomenal pool, if that's your thing.
  • Delano @ Mandalay - phenom mini-suite rooms, private entrance vs normal Mandalay. Takes luxury up a notch
  • Four Seasons @ Mandalay - it's a Four Seasons. Everything you'd expect from a Four Seasons
  • NYNY / Luxor / Excalibur / Tropicana - not worth the effort. There's a reason their room prices are typically low. Tropicana is associated with some hotel chain. Westin? SPG? couldn't tell you.
  • MGM - Decent, especially if you get one of their upgraded rooms
  • Monte Carlo - gotten a little rough around the edges. Needs to be revamped (revamp/rebranding is coming so stay tuned)
  • Aria / Vdara / Cosmo - phenom location, phenom rooms, phenom service. Cosmo gets bonus points for being Marriott affiliated
  • Paris / Planet Hollywood - comfy upgraded rooms; if you can get a good rate, it's worth it.
  • Bally's - Avoid. Ugh, what a bad experience THAT was
  • Cromwell - gotten good reviews, couldn't tell you anything specific
  • Bellagio - rooms smell nice. Get a good rate, it's worth it.
  • Caesars - be sure to pick the right tower. They're in the middle of remodeling again.
  • Flamingo - used to be average, needs some revamping
  • Linq - see above comment
  • Harrah's - I like playing there, but haven't stayed there.
  • Mirage - I liked it. Better than I expected it to be
  • Treasure Island - like a glorified Holiday Inn. And not the good Holiday Inns.
  • Wynn / Encore / Palazzo / Venetian - Yes, please. Palazzo/Venetian are associated with IHG

Casino Opinion:

It doesn't matter where you play on the Strip, you're going to get screwed no matter what if you play lower denomination slots. If you're a slot or video poker player, then head off-strip to a locals casino OR downtown. If you're looking for payouts, avoid the pennys and move up at least to quarter play. Play dollar slots if you can afford it for the best % payout.

As for table games -- if it's Blackjack you're after, BE SUPER CAREFUL -- practically every game on the Strip is going to pay 6:5 instead of the normal 3:2. If you want to play in the Party Pit or at a super-low denomination table, be prepared to be giving up 20% of your winnings just for sitting at those stupid 6:5 tables. If the table doesn't say "3:2", don't play it.  At the very least, learn how to play Basic Strategy or put one of those strat cards on the table in front of you.

If you're playing Roulette, look for a wheel that has only one ZERO slot on it, without the Double Zero. Your projected loss decreases when there's one less bad spot on the wheel.

If you're playing Craps, don't play the stupid bets. Take the odds.

Casino Royale has super cheap beer/drinks and super low table stakes. You wont' win a lot, but you probably won't lose a lot either.

Regardless of what game you're playing (slots or tables), be sure to play with a Players Club Card (available at every casino). You'll rack up points [that expire within a year, typically, if you don't play often], and get marketing stuff like free/discount room nights.  I'm not a big player, but I still get the occasional free room or event invite thrown at me.

FOOD:

There's now an In-n-Out on the Strip @ the Linq. If you've never had it, then it's worth the trip.  Once.

Avoid Guy Fieri's place.

Gordon Ramsay's restaurants aren't bad. The meatballs at RAO's are really good.  SushiSamba, Carnevino, Morels, Bouchon, and a few other Venetian restaurants are worth the $.  The wine cellar @ Wynn has a great selection. The sushi place and beer place at The Park @ NYNY are tons of fun.

Surprisingly, The Steakhouse @ Circus Circus is hella good.

Love the China Poblano @ Cosmo (Chinese+Mexican), and the egg place @ Cosmo regularly has a wait of, like, 45 minutes for an egg sandwich. I didn't try it, but I know someone who said "ohhhh, it was worth it".

Hated the buffet @ Paris (not my thing). Wicked Spoon @ Cosmo is well liked. Have yet to try the buffet at Caesars, which is supposedly really good. MGM's buffet is average, Mandalay's buffet is decent.

If you've read this far then I'll just repeat -- it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you want a luxury/relaxing/spa-like vacation, there are hotels that will cater to making you comfortable but you'll pay for it.  If you're going to just gamble, then stay where you're going to play the most for the convenience factor.  If you're going for sight-seeing, then it doesn't matter where you stay
