Off season topic: Best hotel/casino in Vegas

I'm a fan of the Cosmopolitan. I go on a boys trip every year and get a ridiculous 2 bedroom suite (usually costs $600 a night).

I like the bars and casino at the cosmopolitan as well. The pools scene is pretty dope. They have a great day club / night club in Marque, if that's your thing. Me, I just like playing kraps and drinking.

I have also seen a few shows, Blue man, Absinthe to name a few. Also I have done the helicopter tour into the Grand Canyon, which was amazing. I really wish I could convince my buddies to go hiking outside of Vegas for a day, but they insist on debachery instead.

What say you? Where do you like to stay? Where do you like to eat? What do you like to do in Vegas?

I'm in Vegas 3-4 times a year for tradeshows. I'd never choose to go there on my own since I'm there on the company's dime plenty and Vegas just isn't my style anyway.

With that said, I generally stay where or near where the tradeshow is being held. I prefer The Venetian, but I'm at the Cosmo next month.

Only been once last year for business, so I didn't get to do the whole 'experience'.  Stayed at the Venetian, which I'd stay at again.  In October, my room was $179, and was really really nice.  Best meal was at Mastros, it's a steak place in one of the newer casinos, can't recall which one.

Edit:  I'm with @LinvilleGorge, I'm only going out there is my company is paying for it.  Not my scene.  When I have time off, I need to relax, I don't see that happening in Vegas.

Yeah, Vegas is just way too fake and everything costs 4x what it should.

I completely don't understand what draws people there. Then again, the people drawn to Vegas probably completely don't understand what draws me to the middle of nowhere Alaska during my free time, so to each their own.

Agree, I'm out there about the same amount. That city wears on you after a time or two

As a local, my best answer is that it comes down to one's budget and what someone wants to do while here. Money's no object, just about any of the nicer properties on the Strip will do. Otherwise, stay at a place off the Strip and try out the local eateries. Cheaper than a buffet and better.

This time of year, too hot to hike at Red Rock and Valley of Fire. I'd rather go to Mt Charleston or if you have the time, take the drive up to Zion.

Some eating options, btw:

Metro Pizza - Get the wings

Buffet Asia - Gets busy but only $10 a head

Viva Mercado's - I could get full with the great chips and dip alone

Bucca di Peppo - If you want to go Italian

Me and you need to go Alaska together.  We'll give Brokeback Mountain run for its money.

Been three times. Would consider moving there, but my wife would have none of it. Honestly, not sure if I could deal with the the length of day thing up there though. A good family friend lived up there for six years and still goes back for a couple of weeks every year but he says if you didn't grow up there you never truly adjust to it. Then again, he lived there back in the 70s and he admits that it might be a lot easier to do given today's technology.
