I didn't know you worked in the front office. Thank for sharing this information.

I hate when people say poo like this. Fans put their heart and money into the team.. They have a right to say "we" when speaking about it

also brings a few questions to mind... I've heard that our defense mainly runs a zone scheme in the defensive backfield. Why is this? It seems like good offenses tend to find the holes in a zone scheme fairly well. You would think we would run more man, especially if we're looking to cancel out mismatches. Do you think this changes under Wilks?

What we've run - up to now anyway - is a Jim Johnson zone blitz. It's the same defense the Steelers ran for all those years under Dick LeBeau but from a 4-3 alignment instead of a 3-4.

The rationale behind it is to put less pressure on the secondary. In a typical scheme, blitzing meant the DBs had to go into man coverage. LeBeau found ways to blitz but still play zone. And Johnson figured out how to do it using a 4-3 base.

Essentially, it's a way to bring pressure without putting your corners on an island.

Shaq is poised to have a breakout year.  Him and Bradberry were absolutely stellar in the Tampa game and showed their potential.  I remember when we drafted Shaq and literally all of ESPN's talking heads were just like yeah I have no idea who that is or what I'm doing...just goes to show.  Go back and look at that draft and pick the players above him you'd rather have.  It's a fairly short list, and we haven't even seen Thompson become what he's destined to be yet or get an extended opportunity.  We lost the KC game for SURE because he didn't play and they killed us with the types of mismatches and the plays that we drafted Shaq to stop.  It's nice to have a guy that neutralizes that mismatch that your McCaffrey type players are drafted to create...and to have them going against each other in practice.
