Jeremy Maclin has been released.

CBS Sports has rated landing spots for Maclin. Ranking us the 11th best fit, here's what they said of the Panthers:

Carolina drafted Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel, but they're still a little short on reliable playmakers. Kelvin Benjamin showed up overweight to OTAs, and he really wasn't overly impressive last season. The Panthers can't keep relying on Cam Newton to carry them. Maclin would be a great late addition to an offense that has potential if their rookies live up to the hype.

I have a hard time taking that author seriously given that, in his discussion of the Eagles as a landing spot, he doesn't seem to know that Maclin used to play for them.

That, plus I didn't see much talk about which teams ran a WCO vs others.

Says the guy who thought KB's 5th year was guaranteed.

We have a contract expert here folks.

Yes, I'm plenty expert enough to realize that a player that will likely be sought by multiple teams will not have any reason to sign a short-term, low-value contract.

That kind of expertise is known as "not being stupid".

Point taken, but the author may have done that purposefully in that it's arguably not relevant. The coaches and culture are not the same, so it's too easy to make a connection that has no practical bearing on today. As for the WCO, I would think that has little bearing on a position like wide receiver (especially for the smart ones).

Definitely all for it. We still don't have a veteran in our WR corp, a vet with a productive history at that. For the right price, it would be a good move.

One problem with the Panthers is they fall into this we don't need additional people mentality and a lot fans have adopted that thinking too. So with that being said, I doubt Gettleman show interest let alone sign him and if he does, I'll eat my crow.

Offense matters for receivers as well.

Running a WCO primarily requires speedy receivers that generate a lot of yards after the catch.

What does our offense require? Good question. We don't know yet.

We do, however, already have a couple of young speedy receivers we picked up in the draft and a few others we got undrafted, that cost us relatively little and none of which have an injury history yet.
