Maclin is good. I think he's being overvalued by many here though.

Perhaps the same can be said of our receiving corps...

Regardless of people's personal valuation of him, I think that his addition would almost assuredly make our receiving corps better.

They found a diamond in the rough in Tyreek Hill.  Then they have a stud at TE as well so that probably made it a little easier to cut ties with Maclin.  But, he's produced as a 1 and a 2 with less that ideal QB's.  He also has good hands and is a willing and capable blocker which would be great for us.

Maclin had nearly 1100 yards and 8 TDs in 15 games with Alex Smith as his QB... That's every bit as impressive as his season with Kelly in Philly, if not more impressive. Remember, the year before they got Maclin they went either all year or like 14 games without a WR catching a single TD pass.

I don't think Hill made it easier for them. I think it was purely a salary cap move. Hill emerged as a playmaker in different phases of the game, but hardly as a true threat as a WR.

Entering training camp, if we acquired Maclin, he would instantly be our #2, and would probably put Funch's roster spot in jeopardy considering the underachievement he's known for to this point and the fact that we added Samuel, Shepard, and Johnson already.

Then again, with the early impressions out there about Samuel, it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up eventually becoming our #1 (probably not this season, but eventually).

I think there's a lot over overvaluing and undervaluing going on here.    He would definitely help us, and probably be our best receiver but I'm not sure it puts us over an edge and I'm not sure it's worth over other extensions.    However, for those dismissing it outright, that's silly as well.   Maclin was on a team that barely had any TD's to WR's, all year.   Smith isn't the biggest deep ball thrower and the team is just inconsistent.    He's way better than a lot of people here give him credit for.

It would definitely be nice to have a more proven/solid guy, with our #1 guy coming into the year with weight problems, holding penalty issues, and getting open issues.   Funchess, also suffers from getting open issues.   In fact, our team probably had the "least" open WR's all year if I remember that stat.   It's possible and I hope that guys like Samuel, C.Johnson and Shepherd can open things up, these are all question marks compared to what you get out of Maclin.

That being said, I don't expect a signing unless it's a decent deal and I feel like some other teams are going to pay him more than they'd want to fill an emergency need.

We signed two JAGs out of budgetary necessity, which is our way. I would drop those two in a heartbeat to facilitate a Maclin signing. They would immediately become dead weight with him on the roster, but we could keep them around for competition.

You're splitting hairs with a fine tooth comb man. I specifically said "made it a little easier to cut ties".  According to Rotoworld Hill will be the #1.  Along with Kelce that softens the blow, which is what I said.

None of that means I'm disputing the fact that it was cap related.

i don't see us doing it, but a WR corps consisting of KB, Samuel, Maclin, and Funchess would rival the corps we had with smitty, moose, and proehl.

i think we'll still be pretty good without maclin, but if we do manage to pull it off i doubt there's a defense in the league who could stop us when you consider the all around threat cam is plus olsen, stewart, and CMC.
