Jeremy Maclin has been released.

Agreed, we have a fat ass overweight WR in Kelvin Benjamin, an underachieving receiver in Devin Funchess, and a bunch of guys that have been JAGS their whole careers.  Yeah, why sign Maclin?  No need to.  Agreed.

Fat ass is a stretch. KB has had 2 1000 yd seasons in 3 years and maclin has had 3 in 7. how is he better?

Aren't the Chiefs god awful at WR? Just makes you wonder why they would cut him? Unless they tried to get him to take a paycut and he wasn't having it, in which case we don't have the cash to sign him.

Its because they handed out contracts taking care of their own guys like Hurney. The only guys they could even remotely move and make a dent was Foles, Charles and Maclin. They needed to cut him to free up 10 mill just to have some breathing room for their rookies. Maclin is still a good player and dangerous weapon with the ball in his hands and in space. Unfortunately, unless its a prove it deal he likely won't suit up for us.

LOL @ people mentioning Devin Funchess' name as a reason not to sign Maclin. Maclin would be an immediate and huge upgrade over Funchess at #2.

With that said, we are almost certainly not signing Maclin.

Yeah it's pretty hilarious.

I was gonna say the same thing. We have about $15.7M left, according to over the cap, and that's enough for emergencies but not a splash signing like Maclin... unless we start cutting folks. I'd love out though.

Two years ago, dude.  He was injured for half the season last year and got 536 yards.  So...........

Fair enough, forgot to check.  As someone mentioned, outside of their TE not much else in terms of options.  Also, playing Fantasy I cant ever remember him doing anything consistently enough to matter much.  Just saying.

Of course Hill did take some touches away too.  There is an argument there, just not that interested.

Jeremy Maclin ought to send Chip Kelly a percentage of his paycheck, because Chip Kelly's offense helped Maclin who is a pretty good WR in this league get "elite" WR money.

And that's all Maclin is... pretty good.  Seven seasons in the NFL, two 1000+ receiving yard seasons.

Not elite.

Not worth the $9-10M he's being paid.

I'm not going to say Maclin is better, but he was never the undisputed #1WR in Philly until his last season there when Jackson left.  Before I hear "Olsen" in reply, they used Celek a ton from the TE spot as well as using McCoy in the passing game.  He also missed 1,000 yards by ~40 yards one season so it is almost four out of seven.  Caught 10 TDs that season.  Last year is tough to hold against him as far as his production goes since he was injured so much, including games where he went out very early or was used as a decoy.  Has good character as well which we all know is highly valued by this organization.

He also came back much better from his torn ACL (his second one, I believe) than Benjamin did.  Perhaps he knew what he had to do since he went through it before, plus it might be harder for Benjamin due to his natural size along with his high-fructose corn syrup size.

Anyways, Maclin is a good player and would immediately be ahead of Funchess.  Saying that it won't happen because money or something is entirely logical but simply saying "we don't need him" is ignorant.  The Pats didn't need another RB but they went out and got Burkhead and Gillislie to add to White/Lewis.  Every team can use good players: especially if said player is arguably equal to/better than every player on the roster at that position.
