Curtis Samuel Is A Very Fast Guy

Curtis Samuel is known as a fast and speedy guy. He was primarily used as OSU's main weapon to slice and dice defenses and give DC's headaches. His ability to burn defenders and be a reliable pass catcher has made him one of the most electrifying offensive weapons in the nation.

One thing that should stand out is just how dominant and fast Samuel looks in OTAs. His speed and route running has been the headlines of today, and his effort astounding. Just look at the following play:

In comparison, here is KB running the same drill. Granted, KB is by no means known as the best route-runner or the fastest guy on the team, but it is very telling on the vast difference of skills these two have.

I mean Kelvin Benjamin wasn't even half bad in this particular clip. Yet he appeared to be Curtis Samuel in slow motion.

You guys wanted a speedy reliable deep threat. Curtis Samuel gives you exactly that.

Samuel is fast but there is not that much of a difference between those routes if you count in your head how many seconds it takes from the start of the route until the time the catch is made. I would say Samuel's route is about 2-3 tenths quicker, which is not that much when you consider that KB has 50lbs on him. People are clearly still exaggerating this weight thing.

I was looking at the same thing. They both actually start breaking down after 8 steps granted on the 15 yard come back Samuel turns out while KB turns in. Either way, no one is going to outbox KB on that pass. They both look good here.

Yeah, but I mean how fast Samuel's transition was really got my attention. I should probably reword this to "quickness", but honestly they both looked good.

It's just amazing to see how crisp and fast Samuel looked.

I think people get it in their heads that because KB appears to not be running as hard, that it means he's way slower, but it's simply not the case. Big guys like that will never look as fast because they're taking fewer steps to cover the same distance.

Wasn't a knock on your post at all. Samuel is going to dominate. That speed is going to be deadly.

Samuel looks very impressive for a rookie who didn't even play WR full time in college, that's for damn sure. I can't wait to see him play.  Again, him and CMC are only 20 years old. I can't get that out of my head because they both already look like they're ahead of the curve. I'm more excited about this team than I was before the 2015 season and that's saying something.

I know what you meant. I just wanted to head things off before the KB bashers came here and started piling on  with the stupid fat jokes again

Samuel is one of those guys who runs so smooth and so fluid it looks like he's gliding or walking on water. His strides are so flawless you don't even know how fast he's going until he's pulling away and leaving other fast guys in the dust.

A eparation and good route running  are not just a speed thing. At higher levels, it's about change of pace, suddenness, and explosiveness. But it's definitely worth noting that KB (and Cam, for that matter) appear slower, but cover a lot of ground in relatively few steps.

The difference was how quickly Samuel stopped his momentum and quickly came out of his break. KB was much slower stopping and getting out to the left. Samuel could make an easy catch on a ball anywhere close where KB needed a better pass thrown to the outside.

Eh. It wasn't that much faster and we already know that KB has a gigantic catch radius. I still think you're selling KB a little bit short.
