Taylor Moton Plans To Spend Memorial Day Weekend Studying

Taylor Moton is a big man. He's a very athletic 300lb+ tackle who moves around defenders like they're nothing. He appears to have a bright future in shoring up our tackle spot, and likely dominate in the NFL.

However, an underrated aspect of Moton is just how intelligent he really is.

When you think of Memorial Day weekend plans, you think of barbecues and hanging out with friends and family. However, Moton plans include a lot of study and filmwork.

If he weren't 6-foot-5, 319 pounds with enough talent to be a second-round draft pick, he'd still be pursuing his MBA in business. Instead, Moton will keep cramming for his new job. 

 

"I'm just a sponge right now, soaking up everything that the coaches are telling me to do," Moton said Thursday after the Panthers wrapped up their first week of OTAs. 

 

Making the jump from college football to the NFL is tough enough. Moton, 22, has an extra learning curve – the Panthers want the natural right tackle to learn the left side, too. So he's an example of why teams are increasingly looking for guys who have more than raw talent.  

 

"It’s not an easy playbook we have, and his ability to pick it up as quickly as he has is tremendous," center Ryan Kalil said.  "I’m really, really excited about this kid. It’s still early, but man, this kid is really strong, he’s really athletic and he’s really eager to learn."

"That's tough because this is different. It might have to be this playbook because there's a lot more that goes into the playbook and football in the NFL than there was in college," Moton said. "This is a huge adjustment, but I'm getting more and more used to it and I'm feeling really confident with it."

Taylor Moton seems to be ready to soak in all the information he can muster to get ready to compete in Training Camp. An intelligent big guy with a bright future in the NFL.

This rookie class really seems like a group of hungry football players, not just athletes.  Guys like CMC, Samuel, Moton etc.. all seem like they are gym rats with a passion for the game. 

Pair them up with this stellar locker room and film rats like Luke and this could be Gettlemans best draft ever. 

Give me guys with football intelligence and passion for the game over egotistical  athletic freaks all day.

He's the most intriguing prospect of the draft.  If he can be a true T with the ability to not only play both spots but to excel in them we may have selected one of the steals of the draft.  Sucks we won't have that 5th yr option but I'd welcome that problem later to have a true LT/RT for years to come.

If this were Cleveland and we were talking quarterback, I could really see this kind of conversation. But we are 2 years removed from the Superbowl and a top 5 offensive line.....

Im REALLY excited about this kid. People dont talk about him much but dude is super smart and has work ethic. But is pretty athletic. Some crazy people on here were wanting Cam Robinson for our LT.
