Bill Barnwell really, really, hated the signing of Matt Kalil & ignores our Draft: Gives us a C+ Offseason.

I actually prefer Barnwell to Robert Mays he is such a victim of the moment. He destroyed us for signing Kalil without waiting for the full details of the contract.

barnwell generally knows what he's talking about. C+ is a little low but he's right, matt kalil is a tremendous gamble. the season hinges on him in many ways.

The LT and RT positions are the ultimate make or break positions for this 2017 team.

The thing is that if we didn't offer Kalil a good sized deal, we probably wouldn't have gotten him (the Vikes made a legit offer, and it was a close call between them and us), and we may very well have been left in the mud altogether in our search for a LT.  

And despite not playing great since his rookie year, Kalil still has enormous potential.  The skill set is there, but his health was not where it needed to be, and he just needs some tweaks on his technique.  Obviously the staff believes they can correct some of the technique issues that have plagued him, and they must feel confident that his offseason surgery finally fixed an injury that hurt his play the last few years.  If they're right, we may have gotten a steal in FA.  It's VERY rare for legit Pro Bowl caliber LT's to hit the open market, let alone sign with another team.  

So while this has the potential to be a miss, it also has the potential to be a grand slam that sets the team up well in the future.

If Kalil holds up for the season and does a "good" job then the dude is wrong-- if he doesn't then he's right.

If we don't return to the playoffs then it's all an F

At this point in the offseason most things are speculation anyway. Hopefully at seasons end, everyone will be praising Gettleman for the Kalil pickup.

Speaking of offseason; I didn't know Andrew Hawkins hadn't been signed yet! Guy was pretty descent for the Bengals and the Browns. Of course he ends of with the Pats!! Not bad for a no. 4 or 5 receiver on there depth chart. Wonder why we never kicked the can on this guy?
