I doubt richardson would let the team be sold and moved after death if he could help it.  That atleast gives me some comfort on the subject.  Would be a shame if it came to that, charlotte is one of the cleanest and most friendly citys i have been in,  it needs pro sports.

Also, anyone but bruton.

Panthers will be in the Carolinas for a long, long time. Growing market that isn't among the smallest to begin with, and a decent stadium. Wouldn't make any sense for a potential buyer to move the team any time soon.

Fake news.  ESPN may suck but even they had a great article about the Stadium Era being over http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/234573/with-6700000000-in-public-money-nfl-stadium-era-closes

Jerry Jones and Bob McNair allowing a team in San Antonio?  The citizens of broke San Diego or St Louis financing a stadium after what they've been through? The owners allowing a move away from the country's 6th busiest airport and 15 million people in the football crazed Carolinas for London or Mexico City?  The Carolinas being a relocation option after just financing Stadium upgrades over at least 10 other markets with decrepit markets or stadiums?  Hardy.  Har.  Har.

These fools should be b*tch slapped for writing this.

I agree with that. Thinly veiled I might add

Likely with a thumbs up from the CCC.  One of their false narratives for not using tourist $$$ for the $43 million needed on the Memorial site for MLS is the lie that a new NFL Stadium will be needed soon.  The real reason is they're chicken $hit for their political lives to ruffle feathers after the riots.

I think people tend to react to the thought of losing the team without, well...  thinking.  I don't see the team moving anytime soon.  If/when a succession plan is enacted I would think there would be some viable buyers who are local and would tie the team to CLT.  Just my .02

Especially since the first generation Panther fans are coming of age.

Came across this post from May. it's an interesting topic for sure that sportsepreneur.com writes about. it's tough to talk about for any NFL fan--the threat of their team leaving (for whatever reason). Just ask St Louis, San Diego, Oakland (they still have them, for now!), Buffalo (although Buffalo ended up keeping their team). And there are so many ways a team can be lost or ownership can change.

Buffalo had a very old owner that wasn't in good shape and for many years there was this unknown floating around. Some people refused to believe the Bills could leave, but it was real. Now the Bills had an advantage in that they were an original team and Wilson was an original owner so they didn't want to lose them BUT the Bon Jovi threat to Toronto was very very real. Estate Planning ended up having tons to do with the Bills staying in Buffalo even though his family (like J Rich's fam) didn't want the team. The Bills disadvantage was the economy, but those that understand the area- it pulls fans in from Canada, Rochester, etc so it is often mis understood. The economy is an advantage CLT has of course so even a new owner could look at CLT and say we are staying right here!

Other teams listed lost their team for many reasons. And teams in the past have too. Think of the Dolphins family losing ownership as a different example. The Redskins. They are real back stories to those that I would encourage any Panther fan to read up on.

The bottom line is we have seen cities lose teams and like it or not, estate planning has a lot to with it. I take this article as a reason to properly plan for an estate and they just used the Panthers as an example. And it's real. If people could remove the fan hat, it is absolutely a threat. If the plan doesn't absolutely call for the Panthers to stay in CLT, don't think there isn't an owner out there in SA, LA, NY, Europe, Texas, etc etc that wouldn't take the Panthers to the city of their choosing if the time comes. it's not a fun scenario to play out, but it's real. And really the article doesn't pretend not to talk about proper business planning. They say it in the article to plan.

Let's hope Jrich lives a very long life-he is an incredible man that has done so much good. And let's also hope it's all planned out for the Panthers to stay in CLT as long as the nfl is in good standing.
