Since it's the offseason, why not? Who are your favorite players in each sport all time?

Pie for mark McGuire and stone cold

Have a lot of mixed feelings on McGwire. He dominated my childhood. I was a huge A's fan as a kid living in the Bay Area. My dad and I would go to a ton of games. Ricky Henderson, terry steinbach, eckersley, McGwire. I watched randy Johnson and Griffey play against them. When I fell in love with the backwards hat kid. Even when McGwire went to the cardinals I followed him intensely. Then when I got older and all that steroid poo came out it was pretty heartbreaking.

Philthy fan, huh? Andruw had the right response lol.
But yea, man. Baseball is great. Grew up playing and that was always the sport I was best in so I'm a little biased as well. Tried to model my game after Andruw. My dad used to check me out from school on opening days, just so I could catch the 1pm games.

Wait, you tried to model yourself after the laziest guy in baseball? Lol

I did like Andruw. I actually liked/respected all the Braves for the most part even though I pulled against them. Nothing will ever match the Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux trio.

NBA - Charles Barkley
NFL - Bo Jackson
NCAAF - Bo Jackson
NCAAM - Chuck Person
MLB - tie: Phil Niekro/Dale Murphy
NHL - Jaromir Jagr
Boxing - Joe Louis
Wrestling - tie: Big Bill Dromo/Argentina Apollo
MMA - n/a
Golf - Jack Nicklaus

I'm sure no one who is familiar with my background is surprised by my first four selections above... lol.  BUT, if you'd like me to re-pick those and I can't choose my Auburn guys, the choices would be:

NBA - Dan Roundfield
NFL - Roger Staubach
NCAAF - Earl Campbell
NCAAM - Pete Maravich

MLB-Andruw Jones

Best center fielder I've ever seen (qualification is that I never saw Willie Mays in his prime).

I wonder if he has enough juice to sneak into the HoF?  I think he's up starting in 2018.

Pie for the Baron Davis mention. Dude was electric. I get a nostalgic feeling when I think of him and those old charlotte hornet teams

I miss the steroid era. McGuire and Sosa battling it out for the HR record.

good times

I watched McGuire hit his record breaking home run at a bar in Key West. It was against Sosa and the Maris family was in attendance. One of those things that I will never forget where I was at. My God I'm old. For the record, I think I was drinking underage but had an impressive porn stache that couldn't be denied.

I hope so. I definitely think it'll be a few tries before he gets in. Defensively, it's no doubt. He was above average offensively, but we'll see.

Im just waiting on the Braves to retire his jersey. I was there when they retired Chippers. Andruw, Chipper, and Brian Jordan were my guys. Gotta be there when Andruws is retired

Just never could warm up to Chipper.

I enjoyed his performances on the field.  But, damn, for a kid who didn't come from the trailer park (pretty sure his family was well off), he sure was a redneck trailer-trash douche.

Edit: My son recently graduated from Auburn but, while he was there, he was attending one of the baseball games and for some reason Brian Jordan was there.  He and his friends went up to him, shook his hand, talked to him, took pictures.  Said he was an incredibly genuine and nice guy.

NBA-MJ or iverson. Both electric players. As a kid I was obsessed with MJ. Favorite athlete of all time. Wanna be like Mike, space Jam.
NFL- jerry rice or smitty
NCAAF-Vince young

MLB -Ken Griffey Jr. or Mark McGwire
Wrestling-Stone cold
MMA-Forrest Griffin

My big bro was a huge Iverson fan. Did everything like AI, from trying to cross everyone over to having the same corn rows like him. Of course, with me trying to be the opposite of my bro, I disliked him. Always respected his game, though, and I find myself liking him even more now. I never realized how huge of an impact he had not only in basketball, but had an impact outside of the basketball realm as well

Yea, I definitely get a douche vibe from Chipper. Damn, could he hit that baseball though lol. I low key see Dansby being just like him off the field.

My admiration for Brian Jordan is a bit superficial, lol but my mother used to say I looked just like him. She even bought me his jersey. Jordan being traded was the move that probably hurt me more than any other move in sports period.

Nice list. Couldn't choose between Iverson and MJ. Loved Iverson but at the same time hated him. Grew up watching Dr J, Mo Cheeks, Malone, etc... Iverson was different. Ultimately I went MJ because he and Mike Tyson were everyone's idols in my era.

Pie to the OP for a good off season topic even if he is hated by many.
