Let's briefly look at Cam in 2016-

Denver game, led us to victory amidst unreal odds and circumstances, Gano choked it away.

Vikings-Oher concussed, game should have been over at halftime-maddening end to a maddening week of unrest in Charlotte https://www.google.com/amp/blackandbluereview.com/how-panthers-lost-to-vikings-in-first-half/amp/

@Falcons-concussed, and no QB in the game is stopping Julio from going off against a gimp Benwikere

Bucs-DA blows the game, no Cam

Saints-Cam is literally Superman even if told not to run but Sanchez in the defensive backfield exposed what was already a lost season in the dome.  Cam overcomes Gano choking again with a 2 point conversion.

Season basically over since hosting a playoff game is not possible.

Last gasp to make a miracle run at a wildcard?

Chiefs-Eric Berry and Marcus Peters make two plays like the superstars they are and take advantage of split second lapses of Cam and KB in what looked like an easy win against the AFC #2 seed.

Raiders-Cam shows a ton of mettle like the MVP he is on the road in a close loss, RR goes full p*ssy with the punt on 4th and short.

Seattle-Cam benched in mind numbing insanity, DA/Tolbert mind numbing play to start, SEASON OFFICIALLY OVER!!!!!!!!  Cam still makes freak play throwing 70 yards off back foot with TD to Ginn.

Your blind nut hugging homerism is hilarious.... you know what everything you just listed is? EXCUSES accountability get some.

Led to victory? We lost.... a 50 yard miss is hardly choking he could have put the team in better position.

Cam is a top 12 QB this ranking is accurate until Cam displays season to season consistency...

I'd rate Cam as somewhere near the middle of the pack after last season. They're right to be concerned about how a shoulder surgery, coming off a SB loss and the worst season of his career, and likely having two new starting OTs will affect his play.

If it were just soely based off his play from last season he'd be in the 20s or something. This list is still taking into consideration Cam's ability shown in 2015 and earlier, but also account for his injuries, his decline in ability seemingly last season and what happened with how teams were just getting to him too fast and easily and having their way with him to make him erratic.

His explanation sounded something like this to me: "Cam was deservedly ranked low because his OL was injured all year, his OL sucked, his WR couldn't catch a cold, and the NFL allowed teams to target his head repeatedly."

11. Carolina Panthers

There are so many questions around Cam Newton right now, not least of which is his timetable for recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. One season after he rampaged his way to a Super Bowl and a league MVP award, Newton saw his completion percentage dip to a Mark Sanchez-ian 52.9. The worst season of Newton's career coincided with fresh concerns about his ability to protect himself -- and the ability of his team and the officials to protect him -- on the field. The shoulder surgery this offseason kept those concerns front of mind.

Carolina's backup situation is better than those of the other teams in this tier, given that Derek Anderson seems to know how to keep the ship afloat when Newton can't play. But the Panthers sit behind Indy and Seattle in our rankings because the health concerns with Luck and Wilson are projected, while Newton's are current.

1. Pats

2. Rodgers

3. Matt Ryan

4. Matt Stafford

5. Big Ben

6. Drew Brees

7. Rivers

8. Eli

9. Luck

10. RW

@15

I don't really care for ESPN, but you took a lot of liberty in the way you paraphrased their list. The article was ranking QB depth charts as a whole, not just starting QBs. So all the single names you listed in the top ten were actually ESPN's ranking of that team's QB depth chart. But carry on with the "Everyone hates Cam and the Panthers" nonsense.

Last year certainly wasn't Cam at his best and that's what they've got to base it on, plus the uncertainty of the shoulder surgery and the offensive line.

No sportswriter could put him in the top five after that. However...

Rivers, Stafford and Luck... I couldn't put the three of them ahead of him just based off of playoff runs. If you haven't made it to the big dance or even deep into the playoffs then you really don't deserve to be in the top 10.

We'll see how it plays out this year. Something tells me Cam will be back in the highlight reels on a regular basis.
