That's bull crap. Same ole bull I heard 4/5 years ago. "Luke was drafted to replace TD". "Shaq was drafted to replace TD". "Cash was signed to replace TD".

That up there ^^^^ is all bull poo.

Dave wanted to be pretty. He wanted to make everybody look dumb. He pulled the trigger on a hybrid LB over a safety (Collins). Still hast figured out how to use Shaq correctly. Hasn't found how to get him on the field. Shaq couldn't beat AJ Klein out the last two seasons.

Shaq is playing out of position. I think his best and most comfortable position is "MLB". His best game came vs the Failcons where I believe where he played majority at MLB with Luke out.

Very similar to Luke as a rookie. Luke was terrible and looked like a bust very early on playing OLB until the Seattle game. History was made after that game once he stay put at MLB.

This is all wrong, and pretty stupid to boot.

I tell you what, I am very excited to see how Shaq continues to develop as a player.  He made some plays last season, and TD has to know that father time waits on no man, especially considering his injury history.  I think Shaq should be pushing TD pretty hard at this point.  If I recall correctly, it took a few years for TD to get situated into his role as a LB before he got hurt.

I think y'all both are wrong and stupid. Idiot to you Shark.

Yall wont change my mind.

Can you explain in your words the different responsibilities that each LB has in our 4/3 scheme?  What makes one or the other better or not at that particular job?

They referrred to Shaq's position as the BUFFALO package. Ron and Dave don't know what the fug he is so they threw out the name Buffalo.

Shaq was drafted to be that hybrid LB/S who could cover TE (Jimmy Graham/Gronk). The damn man can't cover Ed Dickson for his life. Shaq is a tackling machine and needs to be playing the middle. But we have Luke!

So.....no.

Shaq was not drafted to be a hybrid player. He was drafted to replace TD. The fact that he had the speed to cover was just a plus and the Buffalo package was just a way to get him on the field more while TD was still playing.

Now look dammit, don't go trying to use logic and common sense with this guy.

Look Id rather have collins and Dodd on the team as well, but they arent. so we have to deal with it. Panthers king is right, we are going to be depending on 35+ year olds to hold down the DE and SS positions. Its not going to be pretty, I think our ceiling on defense this year is probably top 10. I can see us being right in the middle of the pack once the season ends.

He was drafted to play alongside Luke and TD!!!!! So quit the crap with replacing TD! TD is still playing. And there are THREE LBs on the field at one time!

the only team in the NFL that starts TWO LBS is the LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Father time is undefeated, my ill tempered friend. I love TD, but he can't play forever. Shaq is the same type of player TD was at this same point in his career. Maybe you have forgotten that TD was a college safety that we converted to the LBer position. Hell, many Panthers fans were already trying to write TD off about this same point in his career. Believe it or not, players have to develop in this league.

Dude, let the Landon Collins $hit go....Shaq is gonna be pretty damn good.

Agreed. We have what we have. No need to play the hindsight game. Plus we have been developing our players behind probowl players. What better way to learn?

Shaq develops behind TD. We still use Shaq in our base 4-3 defense and now hopefully more in the nickel.

Vernon Butler is learning behind Short and Star. We run a heavy defensive line rotation so he will be very important this year.

I can't wait to see how Butler has grown this season. From those short little clips of the off season workouts on Panthers.com, his feet look just as quick as KK's feet and he's about 10lbs heavier. If he can get as good with his hands as KK, look out.

We are all wanting our high draft picks to play right away but we have also always had been getting to the playoffs with regularity until last year.

I'm looking forward to see what we have out of a lot of our young players to see who our next star player might be.

Shaq, Butler, Funch, KB (only played 2 seasons), Bradberry, Worley all have potential to be difference makers. Who steps up?

Yup. TD started 2015 slow as well but was able to pick it up a couple weeks in. Last year though he definitely lost a step and started declining noticeably. I absolutely love TD and am sad to see it happen but it was (is) inevitable.

I think TD played hurt but yes father time had its moments
