Report: Shula And The Panthers Planned On Getting McCaffrey And Samuel Months In Advance

1. Everyone gets their guy

There will not be a single team that comes out and says "yeah we were out of ideas there and just threw a dart at the wall." Every single team will claim they got their number one overall pick in the first round. Every single team will say this guy was the target all along. And they're all lying. Except for like the Browns. But if the Browns have you as the best player in the draft you might as well just kill yourself.

2. Everyone gets first rounders in the second round

Teams rank players differently so this isn't totally false, but the instant and lazy narrative will be that whomever they got in the second was ranked as a first rounder. Either they're lying to create a media narrative or they're terrible at their jobs. Do not believe this when they say it.

That's hard to believe considering every report stated we loved Fournette. Virtually every single one.

Actually, Voth is coming out saying the Panthers would've chosen McCaffrey over all else. I feel like the Panthers were blowing a lot of smoke on the LF idea due to their love for McCaffrey.

No, do you have comprehension issues?

McCaffrey wasn't a slam dunk pick. Look up the article. Hell, ESPN wrote about it too (titled "Christian McCaffrey? Kuechly DNA?). If McCaffrey were the target, we wouldn't have waited 2 minutes to make the pick.

We were calling him so Rivera, Shula and Taylor could talk to him. Was Garrett a slam dunk pick? The Browns waiting like eight minutes to take him.

Considering that they were desperate to trade for Cousins after Trubisky was drafted... ? The Browns were seriously discussing Trubisky at #1 but eventually went with Garrett according to a few insider reports.

Well, we didn't wait to call Star or Benjamin or Shaq or Butler.

No they weren't.

They also had informed Garrett prior to the draft he was their guy. So again, why wait eight minutes?

i don't think a coaching performance like the one Shula had  in 2015 will happen but maybe once in a generation.i can't express in words how fortunate this team is to have Mike Shula as their OC...

if anyone can utilize McCafferry and Samuel it's Shula...

Cam had a rookie year that was second to none in the HISTORY of football and won OROY with Shula at his side as QB coach.in 2015 Cam won NFL MVP with Tedd Ginn as his #1 WR and Shula as the mastermind behind that offensive scheme that delivered the improbable in the form of the #1 offense in the NFL and a NFC Championship.

KB was the first rookie WR in franchise history to have a 1,000 yard season in 2014.also,KB was our #1 WR as a rookie and  Shula was the OC who somehow got him the ball even though Byron Bell was our LT and Nate Chandler was our RT.this also was the year that Carolina became the first team to win back to back NFCS titles

Greg Olsen has had the best years of his career since Shula became the OC.in 2014 this offense looked so predictable on paper due to a lack of talent that everyone said that you simply beat the Panthers by doubling Olsen-contain Cam &and make Cam throw.well that apparently didn't  work since Olsen  has done nothing but have 1,000 yard seasons since then

you give Shula the talent and he's one of the best in the buisness at delivering the goods.

i could go on and on about Ginn and others, but wether you like him or not the proof is in the pudding.

If that's your only counter point, then your foundation is already nonexistent. Again, an article from ESPN and the Charlotte Observer stated that Gettleman wasn't running to the podium to announce the pick. He listened to four pitches (each about 20-30 seconds) before he finally made it official.

A call takes seconds, not minutes. Try again.

What are you even arguing? I never said they did or didn't listen to offers. The fact is they took McCaffrey at eight, and there's far more evidence to point to him being the guy they wanted, than not. Holy poo you guys are going postal over this HAHA

I'm not. I'm just saying McCaffrey wasn't the automatic choice. From what it sounds like in these articles, Taylor sold Gettleman on McCaffrey with the comparisons to Kuechly (IQ and work ethic).

Yep, and Big Cat loved him too. That doesn't mean you wouldn't move down if someone wowed you with an offer. Listening to offers is smart.

I believe this article is true and that we had decided long ago that Christian was who we really wanted. I don't think Fournette was our first choice ever, despite it seems he was the majority of the fan bases dream pick. I personally decided about a month before the draft that I want Stanford's#5.

McCaffrey was in fact the Guy and it would have been hard for them to take Fournette over him if he had fallen. He doesn't fit what they were looking for in the draft as far as playmakers are concerned.

Four people incoming to tell you you're dumb and don't know what you're talking about.

That's ok, they can say that all they want. I've said for a while that McCaffrey was the pick and that they might take fournette over McCaffrey but it wasn't cut and dry between the two.

Quite a few in the front office including a few that had a huge say in the board favored McCaffrey.

:shrugs:

    • It didn’t feel like we’re the Bills bc we’re not a consistent conference contender yet we’re a rebuilding team. But with the game on the line we played just like the Bills went straight down the field and scored a tuddy then converted a 2pt conversion I have to give credit where credit is due. And the chiefs played us like we were the Bills in an AFC championship game, drive down the field and kicked a walk off FG to win at the end very similar to me. Are saying our defense stunk yesterday? Vs an elite offense team with elite coaching an elite QB man idk what you want them to do. KC does these things to the best defenses in the league consistently to win AFC chips and Super Bowls let’s not devalue who they are. I saw us play KC to the wire and barely lose defense did its thing as much as it could. Bingo!!! We’re also forgetting how injured we’ve been defensively this year, yes we need to build up the D but adding a few pieces and D Browns successful rehab should make us a very strong unit again. Couple that with the offense we saw yesterday and we’re winning our division.
    • Canales deserves a lot of credit. I'm very pleased. He's definitely making strides with Bryce. I also think some of his lack of commitment to Bryce as the starter is to motivate Bryce. I think he liked what he saw when Bryce was benched.  Even the Defense looks tremendously better with just a couple more pieces getting healthy. Wonnum has made our pass rush viable again.  I would love to see this team with one more good player across the defensive front, DT or an edge rusher.
    • I didn’t see any limitations yesterday
