Albert Breer Believes The Panthers Would Have Selected McCaffrey Over Fournette

Recommended Posts

Fournette does not fit any of the things that came out about quick passes to rbs . I have no idea what they would have done given a choice at the same pick. I do believe they are much happier with what they got in the end in reality.  Would you rather have our top 3 picks or Fournette? It would be something like that.

This.

It seemed VERY clear that to get Fournette we'd need to move up.  One of the most high consensus picks by mock drafts was Fournette to JAX.  So, while we'll never know who we would have picked if Fournette and CMC were both there at 8, we  were clearly EXPECTING we'd be picking CMC, (had a reporter at his house) and were happy with it.

Can always count on you to point out obvious facts that no one else can seem to see or care about.

They flew to Denver to be there for the pick. It was always going to be McCaffrey.

Yep Gettleman should go up to Mccaffrey face and say hey kid your lucky Fournette wasn't there.

Like I said teams like talking themselves into picks, but yeah keep living in fairytale land

Again....you're ignoring every single respected reporter that said prior to the draft our target was McCaffrey more than Fournette. If you want to do that then fine, but to act like you know definitely what would have happened is absolutely laughable.

And yea, as @KB_fan said, they flew to Denver to be there when he was drafted. Not to mention, he had a McCaffrey jersey with the number eight on it right after the pick (check the video if you don't believe me). You can ignore every respected person in NFL media that's saying the opposite of what you want to believe, but there are certainly far more signs that point to McCaffrey being the guy all along.

Sure looks like a number eight on that jersey for a guy that would never be the BPA on the board at eight...

I love how hard it is for some people to believe we might have preferred CMC to Fournette.

Voth has a great track record and he now works inside the building.  Right after the draft he said it wasn't a slam dunk in either direction - and he indicated that JR really wanted CMC.  The owner is in the war room and - understandably - his opinion carries a lot of weight.  Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I have read that LF did NOT visit JR's house - whereas we know CMC spent hours with the owner pre-draft.

There are plenty of signs that - at the very least - these guys were in close proximity on the Panthers board.  I don't think it's a stretch to say that CMC might have been the pick over LF based on scheme/fit.  But we'll never really know (and the Panthers have no reason at all to clarify, at this point).

Interesting that's not what Jeremy reported

*stirs pot*

With all due respect Jeremy also wrote in his article that CAP was inactive when Stewart was injured. When in fact he was basically elevated to immediate starter whenever Stewart was inactive. The only reason fozzy and Tolbert got jereseys over him is because they both played special teams and CAP did not. Moral of the story: think for yourself

People always seemed to have a hard time understanding that.

CAP was the #2 RB

Fozzy was the small change of pace back.

Tolbert was the big change of pace back/fullback.

If Stewart was healthy they wouldn't activate CAP because they probably figured they could finish the game with Fozzy and Tolbert taking over the RB duties.

I can actually see us keeping CAP this year and letting Fozzy go.

That's cause everyone and their mother knew Fournette was going to Jacksonville. You are flat out delusional if you think we wouldn't have drafted Fournette if he wasn't there.

BTW teams stitch shirts pretty easily LOL you act like it's a months process. I'm pretty sure they had an OJ Howard jersey already made just in case

Pretty sure they didn't send people from the media team to Alabama for OJ Howard's draft party...

I get it, you had a hard on for Fournette. It's whatever man.

I love the CMC pick.  I think this is the best draft of Gettleman's career.  To play Devil's Advocate though, why are you so sure they didn't send a media team to OJ Howard's draft party?  No way for us to know really.

Did we send a media team anywhere or did Mccaffery have a friend with a n iPhone?

I guess it's possible a friend with an iphone that had a spare Panthers mic with him. Meh, like I said.... we got the better guy for the Offense either way.
