Best Camera for around $500?

This may be a better question for @Jeremy Igo but I'm looking for a camera to take Photo's of Nature and landscape photography.  I've been taking photos for a while with my crappy phone camera but would like to get something better.

imo shell out a little extra cash and get yourself a canon t6i. that's what i did. i started out by looking at the cheaper nikon cameras that they had on amazon, and then i turned my attention to this. it's more updated than the 3400.
