On paper is this the best roster we've ever assembled?

Notable players from 2004:

QB: Delhomme
RB: Davis, Foster
WR: Smith, Muhammad, Proehl
FB: Hoover
TE: Mangum
OL: Gross, Wharton, Mitchell

DL: Peppers, Buckner, Jenkins, Rucker, Wallace
LB: Morgan, Witherspoon, Fields
DB: Minter, Manning Jr, Gamble

We had a lot of players from the SB and then added some. Then the big bad injury bug decided to take out almost our entire team.

I think some of you need to temper your expectations for this season.

Is it not OK to get excited about the coming season and a talented roster?

There are those of us who can actually NOT "temper" our expectations then, if things don't turn out the way we expected, actually handle that eventuality with a modicum of sanity and without going into clinical depression or suicidal thoughts.

I've never understood the "temper your expectations!" or the "don't get your hopes up!" crowd.  Why not?  Are you saying you can't handle disappointment?  So the safest way to protect your feelings is just to never be hopeful or positive?

I mean, what's so bad about being optimistic or being a FAN that some of you think it needs to be medicated like some form of mental disease?

This is the time of year for unbridled hope. Expectations can be tempered later during the preseason or first couple games

Yeah, I just made a post about that.

I just don't understand the "being optimistic is a horrible thing" crowd.

It's pretty close.  Top *1* QB, high potential at one spot at RB and WR, top 2 TE, top DT group, top few ALL TIME at LB as well as another great one in TD.  However, 03 had the best two WRs we've ever had as well as much more overall talent on the defense. Smitty pulls 03 ahead a bit imo.

I think you took my post way too seriously and I wasn't railing against anyone elses opinions either, I only offered my own.  I just have been seeing super bowl predictions and very optimistic stuff after having such a bad season . I never said it was bad to believe in your team or be optomistic , I just like to have fun and be that guy who tries to see things from all angles and not just be the homer who thinks their team will go 19-0 every season.

Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis, Julius Peppers, Mike Adams, and Greg Olsen are my age.  We are counting on them to be at the top of their game.

I think Ryan Kalil, Mike Adams, and Greg are sure bets. I'm a bit worried about TD. It certainly looked like he had lost a step at times out there. But he's just as important as Luke honestly with his presence alone. It's Peppers I'm really worried about. I hope he proves me wrong. I'm not one of those negative people on Pep i loved him but when he was here he had a tendency to take plays off. Maybe he's grown out of it.
