I like Byrd, but for a guy potentially on the outside looking in, bragging about his 40 time on twitter doesn't move the needle.

Actually he was cut to make room for someone (that I can't remember). He was picked back up when it was thought that he may be needed due to Funchess being injured I believe.

All of these small frame speedsters should be required by the coaching staff to watch a minimum of 100 hours of tape on Smitty.   WE need some of that tenacity and true competive nature on offense.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I think his chances are as good as anyone's outside the top three. 

People are putting all this stock in CJ2 and Shepard. I'll believe that when I see it too. Shepard's saving grace is ST. Other than that, I'm not counting on him to be a key contributor. He had his opportunity last season, just like CJ2 had his opportunity to sieze a consistent and key role as well. The fact is they both faded. 

Here, everyone will hopefully get a chance to impress, regardless who it is, and may the best man actually win. I'm tired of Rivera and his rhetoric about competition. It needs to be more than rhetoric. True competition should be a part of the evolution.

Samuel ran 4.31, laser timed at 196 lbs.

Byrd today is at least 15 lbs. lighter, and was nearly 30 lbs. lighter than Samuel coming out of college.

 

That being said, Byrd can be as fast as he wants in shorts, but he has shown little elusiveness and even less production.

 

I wish him luck, but there is no need for him to get butt hurt about the incoming competition. Just man up and produce and you will make the roster.

Rivera mentiioned Byrd lately.  We are trying to put WR types into the offense as we KNEW it. But this offense is not going to be as much about our QB and WRs  being bigger--we are about to become faster.  KB and Funchess are locks but Samuel, Shepherd, Byrd, etc. may be part of a new order.  We do not know what the needs are.
