In all fairness to Byrd he may have been getting the short end of Riveras loyalty stick the last couple seasons.

You don't know anything cause he has not even been given the proper chances to show anything outside of preseason games which he did showcase that he is capable..that is why he is still on the team..Bersin has been on the team forever and only shows that he may catch a ball but thats it nothing special..if you think Bersin is the man then your expectations are very low... 

We shall see I believe this yr with a new Wr coach and new offense how Byrd will do. This yr is make or break for both I believe.

I think he showed enough last pre-season, he was the only player who could return a kickoff with any effectiveness. I also do not recall any drops on his part. 

Front Offices, and coaching staffs do limit the exposure of guys they want to to keep and beyond that he MADE the 53. 

However he was behind Ginn (the veteran speed guy), and Brown a more vetted slot receiver. Like a poster mentioned, Ron himself specifically mentioned him during a draft presser (paraphrasing) ''don't over-look Damiere Byrd''.

Also in Week 17 he saw his first action and I think he made a catch or two that game, he knows the offense and only three (KB/Funch/Samuel) or four receivers (Shephard 3yr contact) are likely guaranteed a spot.

We carried six receivers last year and as it stands he's the closest thing to Samuel (in the slot) so just from a depth and continuity standpoint I think he has a leg up on Bersin (does he even still have eligibility 5 years??), and the other UDFA's who I see hitting the PS along with Garrett.

I don't think so. RR has mentioned Byrd by name in several interviews without being prompted or asked about him. He just did it again int he post draft presser.

I think he was referring to prior to this season.

I am too. RR praised Byrd last preseason too. Loyalty has nothing to do with it. He can either play or he can't.

Byrd will not make the 53 imo.  He may get another stint on the practice squad if he's lucky.  Unlike years past there is actually good competition at wr this year and certainly at pr and kr so his chances are slim to none.

I hope he can make something happen. They are loading up in the receiving department (even out of the backfield), but there seems to be some stumbles from our big guys receivers.

However, speed isn't all there is to the game and just because someone is fast doesn't mean they get a spot in the WR corps. I don't think there's room for another Pilares on the team.

Gotta be able to run, do the routes, know the other guys' routes, get separation, get noticed by the QB and go all out to make the catch. Being a small target doesn't help here, but effort can make it happen. Our best receiver ever was a fairly little guy, so the precedence is there.
