Brandon Beane

If McD truly is running the show in Buffalo, which it seems like and has been suggested by reporters, then I don't know why Beane would want this job now, instead of just sticking around to have DG's job when he retires or getting a shot at a real GM job with another team. Granted that could be a decade from now, but if McD is essentially acting as a GM and will be in the future then, despite the GM title, that's not really the same job that he's aiming for.

Also, I have no idea if he's really qualified or ready. Yes he's supposedly been being "groomed" since DG got the job and even before then, and was promoted to assistant GM recently, but I don't think that means as much as it appears on the surface. DG is still running the show. He very well could be ready but I would guess not. DG was being groomed for decades before he finally got this job, and he's had a lot of learning on the job already. Don't think he would've lasted as long in his first GM job if he got it a decade earlier. This is all just my speculation though.

And based on my speculation personally I wouldn't see it as a huge loss if we lost Beane. It would be disappointing if we truly are super high on him and expect him to take over for DG and keep it running smoothly here for years, but I'm not so sure that that's set in stone. I think DG will be around for a while longer. He's been gunning for this job his entire life, and seems to like it. Not sure why he'd retire any time soon. I wouldn't if I were in his position. There's some time to groom someone else.

Speculation that since they list him as a "front office candidate" they might offer him something other than the GM job...

Could be nothing, of course.

In that case, not sure why he'd take it.

If it's a "Vice President in Charge of Personnel" or some such, the title sounds nicer even if you're practically doing the same job as before.

Or maybe they just offer more money.
