Every once in awhile, you get a tiny glimpse behind the curtain. Lance Taylor gives a little insight into how happy Christian McCaffrey was when he was picked, something fans weren't able to see, being that CMC wasn't in Philly.

"After watching the Panthers select running back Christian McCaffreywith the eighth overall pick, the former Stanford running backs coach - now Panthers wide receivers coach - heard tears of joy on the other end of the phone.

He had to fight back tears himself.

"'I tell you, it's an emotional moment,' Taylor said moments after speaking with McCaffrey on draft night. 'There is so much hard work that goes into this. To hear that a guy you've coached and have a relationship with is going to be that eighth overall pick is pretty special.'

"'It was special talking to him on the phone and hearing how emotional he was.'"

It's really a rare if not unique situation. I fully expect the expectations that Taylor, Rivera and even Gettleman are expressing about CMC---expectations being passed along to fans---to come true. I'm not one to set myself up for a fall, or to write about what I'd usually consider unfair and/or undue expectations for a rookie, but I have gotten caught up in the great expectations.

There are simply too many things that should make this work, the least of which is the fact that Gettleman and company had intimate knowledge of CMC as a player (being that they hired his college coach). Gettleman already fancies himself a super scout, so with his regular knowledge reinforced with Taylor's knowledge kinda means that the plans for McCaffrey and how he will successfully fit into this offense should be fail safe. Add in the fact that top 10 picks are expected to make an impact from day one, and that Rivera and company have virtually proclaimed from the get-go that CMC will be an institution in this offense early on and often, there really shouldn't be any excuse (save for that one word which imperfectly rhymes with misery, that I refuse to say) for Christian not to come in and contribute in a huge way. We have the knowledge, and he has the skillset and true, meaningful pedigree. I mean, the hype has got to be real. It just has to be. Destiny has been set and laid out so perfectly. Failure is not an option. Failure is not in the cards with this one.

I'm sure he would have teared up at any NFL team calling him. He probably would have had a meltdown if it had been the Broncos.

I wonder if he'll ever end up adding some power to his game to make him a more complete RB. Some of the best ever at the position were around his height but about 10-15 lbs heavier (Ex. Landanian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk)

Man, i just started to warm up to MCM's potential, I could totally see a Faulk-like projection for MCM.
