Unpopular Panthers Opinions

Panther CBs will play more man defense, allowing the Safety to roam more free.

Safety played suffered last year due to CBs inexperience, Boston was a good player.

I'd add that cutting Bene was a mistake for the same reason.

This is one of the most tired lines I see on this site.

Every single fan base criticizes their starting QB....every singe one...at some point or another.

Just part of the game.

I doubt many fan bases are bashing their former ROTY/MVP QB for being "lazy"

I haven't seen a whole lot of huddlers ever calling Cam lazy.

Not a whole lot but even recently I've seen at least one long time poster question his passion and loyalty to his craft as a football player.

Add that to people questioning his heart here, it's quite embarrassing for our fans.

What's really with the hate on Jake Delhomme? Anyone that really spent the time to watch any Panthers game during Delhomme's era knows he was clutched. He was a real winner and play with his heart out until he couldn't anymore. I could name several games off the top of my head right now that we won just bc of Jake alone.

I really believe that the hate of Jake is just coming from this new generation of fans that started following the Panthers once Cam was drafted.

Please watch the tape of the Panthers vs AZ in '08. Then follow that up with the first game of the season in '09 against McDermotts Eagles. Then get back with me.

Fans are people, and there are a lot of stupid people out there.

I don't question Cam's toughness or desire to play the game.

Having said that, he should have jumped on that damn football in the super bowl.

He froze, poo happens, but he still should have jumped on it.

More unpopular opinions possibly:

We should have never signed Williams to a second contract and sent his ass packing years before he got fat and complacent. His contract is one of the reasons we went into the shitter.

Barnidge never got a fair shot at developing as a TE his first round through here.

I agree with Sanjay and think TE is still very much a need on this team. Maybe not to the extreme that he does, but we need another one sooner rather than later.

Funchess might end up being a better player than Benjamin if given the right opportunity.

I feel like Rivera is a mediocre coach along the same lines as John Fox. Still never had back to back winning seasons and is far too conservative and not willing to shake things up to be a top tier guy.

I'm worried that Bradberry will regress this season and be exposed far more than last year, putting more questions in our secondary moving forward.

One more:

Remmers wasn't nearly as bad as some of the people on this board made him out to be, they just needed a scapegoat to put the blame on the line woes last season and chose him.

He was playing as a backup out of position all year. He was never meant to be a LT and he himself is an average RT. We could have done far far worse than having him as our starter last year.

The jump on the football moment is one of those things that will be infinitely micro analyzed into oblivion.

But anyone thinking that Newton simply decided not to jump on it is point blank period a f*cking numbskull.

Okay, let's roll with it, because Lord knows we need to drag this crap out into the yard all over again.

In 2015, we were on an epic winning streak. Cam was in high spirits, the whole team had it. When you are winning, and when you've had to gut out a few close ones, you can get that lift. Heck, we even over celebrated most of the time, led by our famed and beloved (heck, I love the guy, too) QB. We went into the Superb Owl on top of the world and cocky as hell -- dumbass Norman was even giving interviews in a luchador's mask.

And then we got hit in the mouth by a Denver team that was better prepared, tougher and just chomping at the bit to take down the league's loudmouth braggart team. It was an ass-whoopin' that is played out at dive bars and clubs around the nation ever Saturday night. They slammed the face of the franchise again and again, and just embarrassed him in front of millions and millions of people. After the show, he even acted like the guy who just got his butt kicked being asked by the crowd "Hey man, that looked like it hurt, did it?"

And he sulked for a while then came back to training camp and went to work again. Still sore but smiling.

And the season starts off with Denver. They come out and play like they wanted to remind him whose b!tch he was. They pounded him, took some obviously illegal hits at him, and knocked the dog water out of the guy. It wasn't right, it wasn't fair, but it was football.

The presser after that show, once again, set the mood for the year. Let's not go through that long, painful slog of futility and despair that was the 2016 season. Suffice it to say, we only saw glimpses of AceBoogie on the field. His clothing choices were more notable than his play.

Let's not try to defend the guy's past, going back to the sulking on the end of the bench with a towel over his head moments. Let's just hope the guy is growing up and proving that he's a fighter.

Can he be Muhammad Ali -- wading back into the fray after every big hit, wanting to fight some more. Or will he be Roberto Duran crying out "No mas, no mas"? I hope it's the first, because if not, every tough team has the blueprint for breaking Cam.

And smartish guy, I never moved the goal posts, but you sure did pull 'em back for a chip shot there.

Its not just you but I really hate these lazy First-Take-level narratives that are formed to try and explain why we had a shitty season. Cam walking out of a media session didn't set a negative tone and it for sure had no tangible effect on any of the games we lost this year.

Why did we go 6-10? Because we overachieved at 15-1 and were due for some regression, lost multiple games by less than a TD (Gano missed FGs in some of those games as well), had multiple key injuries (Oher, Luke, Kalil) and some players regressed (Coleman, Short, Tolbert).
