Why does DG get cute in last 2 rounds?

I think he uses the back end of the draft to grab guys that - if undrafted  - would probably sign somewhere else. Most of the guys he signs as UDFAs we've met with and have established a relationship.  I don't believe that is the case with the 6th and 7th rounders.  The only way to get those guys into our camp may have been to draft them.

I see Armah making the team...the other is up to Gano...

There is only 53 roster spots.  The later rounds is where I feel you draft not for starting needs but for overall team needs.  Drafting another LB or RB or CB or DL or OL, the chances of them actually making the team isn't that likely.  Not like it was back in the Hurney/Fox days when the depth was so bad every draft pick earned a roster spot.  Not to mention the way Fox used rookies to man his special team units so vets didn't have to.  Those days are also gone.

GMan actually has done a great job of filling in the entire roster, especially with UDFA and cast off signings.  So when you look at those 4th-7th round picks, the odds that some rookie LB from the 6th round knocking off Jeremy Cash or a 5th round RB knocking off Fozzy or a 7th round OL knocking off Larsen just isn't that likely.  Now a FB making the team after we let go of Tolbert, that's actually a high probability he makes the team.  And same with a kicker.  If Gano struggles in camp, Butker has a real chance of making this team.  The way I see it, GMan just doesn't like wasting picks on players he's just going to cut before they ever even play in a real game.

He wants to show everyone why he is the GM. Its ego. DG wants to gamble on these guys and when it works out, he can drag his monster dick around for everyone to see. Its the same with people like Belichick gambling on these aging vets and no-name skill players. Sometimes it works out and you look like a genius, sometimes it doesn't and you just cut ties with the player and move on.
