Will Cam adjust to a short passing game?

It helps Cam when we add two targets that can get separation quickly. It's a matter of building up a level of consistency with the timing and that will take time. With his offseason surgery, we may need to go more run oriented early on.

Cam has said in the past that he wanted to focus on completion percentage / accuracy and utilizing his safety valves instead of always wanting to go for the home run which makes him hold onto the ball too long.

That didn't seem like that came to fruition last year. Maybe this year with so much emphasis on that from the coaching staff and everyone involved, it will all come together.

If you go back to 2015, Cam completed 76% of his passes behind the LOS and 64% of his passes that traveled 1-10 yards.

Whats that compared to the league average? Beacuse 14/30 qualifying qbs had a 64%+ completion percentage  on ALL their throws last year.

I love it when logic creeps it's way into the huddle.

You would think it would be obvious to everybody that they had a plan in mind when they went into the draft. Just because they say they're taking BPA, that doesn't mean they're not looking for specific types of players who are also high on their boards.

You are absolutely right.

Last year, and in years past when our offense team/struggled, it was almost always due to our offense being forced into disadvantageous situations where Newton was having to force passes into the tightest of windows, and on long downs even worse.

The biggest issue with our offense beyond the long developing routes was stupid play calling on first down that setup bad scenarios on 2nd and especially on 3rd down. With the additions of CMC and Samuel we should be able to alleviate this pretty much immediately if Shula is even halfway competent.

Cam's accuracy issues mainly stem from him throwing off his back foot. Since he is a tremendous athlete he is often able to throw a fantastic deep ball by just slinging it downfield without stepping up. But it can also lead to him sailing passes. He had this habit as a rookie but improved on it when able to step up in the pocket. He only regressed when the OL was getting pushed back into him. Give him a clean pocket and he will hit his targets at a rate much higher than his career average.

I think if Shula would speed the game up and call plays on time..Cam would be better.. He likes to look at the field and make adjustments ..last yr he was knocked to the ground so hard and so many times that he barely had time... Hopefully this line will protect Cam or he will be skinny and fast enough to escape up the middle.lol

I think he will throw more short passes, but he's not gonna turn into Brees or Brady where they dink and dunk you to death.

Cam himself has said he will never be Brees.

Asking Cam to become a dink and dunk passer is like asking Frank Thomas to only hit singles or Mike Tyson to become a jab specialist. It's not gonna happen.

You act like Brady and Brees both don't thorw a poo ton of long strikes to go with that dinking and dunking.
