Tre Boston Has Been Waived

Recommended Posts

Don't recall Rivera stating Boston blowing coverage, I believe some of you are just trying to forget the atrocities we had at cb not named Bradberry until late in the season. There's no way you can expect a safety to save a cb from being torched .3 secs after the ball is snapped(see bucs game). If the money is use to sign someone else cool I'm all for it, but Marlowe and Jones are not going to threaten Coleman nor Adams for starting jobs let's be real.

UNC fans are well schooled in Boston's missed assignments. He's still the same guy.

And came off sounding just as idiotic as the rest of the people that bash the best GM we've had.

It's equally idiotic if you think gettleman deserves NO critscm whatsoever. He has made bad decisions too.

Star Lotulelei grades as a barely above average tackle, which did not warrant being selected 13th in the draft;  has never made the pro bowl.  He's by no means a bust, but if I have the 13th pick in that draft, I don't take him that early

Here are some pro bowl players drafted directly AFTER Star in the 1st round

Eric Reid, Kyle Long, Tyler Eifert, Desmond Trufant, Xavier Rhodes, Deandre Hopkins, Travis Frederick, etc

Not to mention Kubbila and Barner;  people will say that all GMs miss on their late round picks, but this was precisely the criticism leveled at Hurney.  At least Hurney hit on his 1st round picks, unlike Dave, who misses on both early and late picks.

Star is one of the reasons Luke is such a damn beast. He keeps him clean on a play by play basis and is a fantastic anchor for our D-line. He was drafted to stop the run and keep TD/Luke clean, and he's done exactly that. He eats double teams so KK doesn't have to. Just because he isn't getting KK's sacks doesn't mean he isn't a major contributor to our Defense.

I can't believe you took the time to respond to that lunatic. He makes CPK look like Gettleman's number one fan

Thoughts on developing Corn Elder as Safety? From USA Today. "Meanwhile, Elder is a confident corner with an attitude that translates well to being a successful defensive back in the NFL. He has a high football IQ and doesn’t have mental lapses often enough to impact his play.

This confidence and instinctual approach to the game also makes me wonder if he could make a positional change with the Panthers. Carolina is in need of a safety and has failed to address this position in the draft. Kurt Coleman is a lock at free safety, but veteran Mike Adams reminds me of Roman Harper’s last years in Charlotte.

Perhaps Elder’s physicality and his ability to diagnose plays quickly could make him a solid strong safety at the next level. He would have to bulk up a little bit and work on his positioning in traffic, but the potential is there. Watching Elder as a gunner on special teams, I see a good amount of open field knowledge in him tracking the ball carrier."

A lot of people don't understand the difference between UT and NT and just look at the sack stats for a Defensive player. Star's position in our defense as a NT does not contribute to sacks on a regular basis, he's there to anchor the line and eat up space. KK plays UT and is used to penetrate and wreak havoc up the middle.

What's fun though is when Star DOES get a sack, it's a play of utter domination on his part, usually because they were dumb enough to leave him in a 1 on 1 matchup.

I'm sure there's a lot that that Xavier guy doesn't understand

I've heard, but we've had this issue before with cb's blowing coverage. Terrible is a strong indictment, nakaumura ese is terrible. Boston was nowhere near that and you can see the defense getting better as the rookie cb's played better l. Not saying he's was all pro either but definitely a guy who can step in if injuries occur and not miss a beat defensively imo

I just think he's the type of player who absolutely drives coaches crazy. He really can make some great plays, but for every great play he makes, there will be 2-3 plays where he blows an assignment, misses a tackle, or takes an awful angle. He's just maddeningly inconsistent and I don't think that's ever going to change and I think that's probably why we decided to just throw in the towel.

The whole "blame it on the overall bad secondary" approach struck a cord with me, because that's what all the UNC fans were hoping when we drafted him. We saw all these same things while he was at UNC, but like the Panthers' last year, that UNC secondary was historically awful so there were a lot of times where it was hard to tell who exactly was screwing up. Unfortunately, now after watching him both at UNC and with the Panthers, it's pretty clear that plenty of those screw ups were on Boston. It was the same story at both stops.
