Considering the sample size and how he missed all of 2015, judging him strictly by wins/losses is a pretty shitty way of evaluating a player. This is definitely a fan evaluation.

I agree he needs to step up big this season, but the logic being applied here to tear down his contributions is reminiscent of the logic that has been used to tear down Cam Newton over the years.

I guess its KB's fault our pass defense fell off a cliff and our offensive line was trash

Gif of The Last Dragon please of Sho Nuff,..

Deets,.... kill em.

Anyway,... lots of hate for the guy,.. probably coming from all the butt hurts that wanted something else in that draft,.. great chance to do a pile on.

Kelvin catches bullets in his teeth,.. "Catches bullets in his TEETH,.. N--A please" hahaha

If a certain female Huddler in Africa would be so kind as to compile those stats, pie would certainly be in order :)

Sorry, I'm already committed to the roster analysis I started.  I find roster-building fascinating, and the comparisons between where we were at on May 1 2016 vs. right now are quite interesting.

That's probably all the football stuff I can do this week.  But maybe over the weekend?  I'll keep it in mind.  I was hoping the OP might be able to do the same analysis he did for KB for Greg...

I'll see if I can do it tomorrow. Had some free time on my lunch break today

I honestly don't think we really need him. It wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to put him on the trade block and see if there's a team that is willing to give us a 2nd rounder for him. Maybe the Browns? They need weapons at WR with Pryor now in D.C. and have a ton of draft picks next year. Plus, they're in the AFC and we won't see them very often if he ends up getting his weight/motivation issues under control.

I feel like Funchess can give us more than Benjamin can, especially with the offense shifting to smaller, quicker receivers. Funchess isn't the physical receiver Benjamin is, but he's got better speed and runs smoother routes. Sign Gary Barnidge to give us another receiving threat and ship K.B. off for a pick before the shine wears off.

I mean, it's not like we don't know our offense can function at a high level without him. Cam had by far his best year without K.B. and seems better when he's forced to spread the ball around rather than keying in on Kelvin as he tends to do.

Don't get me wrong; I love Benjamin's potential and he's shown that he can play at a high level, but the guy is basically the Jeff Otah of wide receivers. I just don't think he's putting himself in a position to be in our plans long-term and as long as that's the case, we should get what we can for him while he's still viewed as having decent value. The other option is to wait until he shows up to camp still overweight, tweaks a hamstring, and ends up playing at 75% the whole season while only gaining 500 receiving yards with all the new weapons around Cam.

I still firmly believe he's too much of an asset to get rid of now. If nothing else he's a big ass target who can out muscle people and high point 50/50 balls and a pretty good red zone threat. We lose him and we're relying on Olsen , inconsistent Funchess, two bench rider WRs we just got in FA, and two rookies.  If Olsen goes down after we hypothetically got rid of Benjamin, our passing game is probably pretty anemic .

The only way I'd be willing to part with Benji is if we had a real #1 WR on the roster or someone damn close to it. In reality we just have a lot of #3 or #4 tier WRs and the rookies are an unknown. Benjamin is our best WR even with his problems until some one else proves they are better, or he improves himself to be considered something close to a top tier WR. Right now I'd say based on his two years of performance (YES I KNOW HIS 2ND PLAYED YEAR IS RIGHT AFTER THE ACL) , I consider Benjamin a very solid #2 WR.

Its a hell of a lot to ask for but I'm hoping beyond hope that Samuel really does well and we can mold him into something more than just a slot WR . He has the speed and yac to be like an Odell type player he just needs to work on becoming a great receiver.   Its too much to ask him to be a #1 probably but it would be nice.

The wild card is going to be our short passing game with both McCaffrey and Samuel. If Shula gets the play calls in and Cam has the accuracy to actually complete these short throws , that will completely change our offense and take lots of pressure/coverage off Benjamin, Olsen, and Funchess. Its bad to rely so much on green rookies but you can't deny the fact that they organization by drafting them that high are putting alot of their hopes of transforming the offense on their shoulders whether you like it or not.

Wins/losses is an awful way to judge a WR. And, it isn't super surprising that he probably has better numbers in our losses. I bet a lot of that is garbage time/attempting to make up big deficits.

The statistical breakdown is good but that doesn't mean there is a correlation. I don't see why we wouldn't ride with Benji until year 5. He is still probably cheaper and better than an equivalent free agent replacement. And he is damn sure better than Funchess.

  •  In the NFL, catching 50% of the balls thrown your way is a bit lower than some of the other #1 receivers in the NFL.

Forgive me for Cam bashing, because I love Cam, but a factor to those low numbers may be that Cam is not the most accurate passer in the world either.  He often over throws.  Hence the reason they drafted KB and Funch in the first place.
