Think a lot of ppl are forgetting who our OC is....

Cam was playing through a bum shoulder and was taking a helmet to helmet hit every other weekend. our line was anchored by Remmers and a cast of back up tackles and a guard (Turner).

he had the #1 offense in the NFL and the league MVP with our #1 receiver out.

You can go off one year if you want.

I prefer to look at the entire career / body of work.

I'm not a Shula fan at all, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt one last time.

I just dislike when people act like he has done absolutely NOTHING for the team, and that an old dog cannot learn new tricks or go through adversities such as injuries/poor play/lack of motivation.

having one good season in your entire career spanning multiple organizations is well beyond giving anyone the benefit of the doubt.

seeing the game plan he trouted out last year knowing how bad our OL was cemented to me just how bad of an OC he is.

OL is complete trash, can not block for more than 2-3 seconds yet we still try to run all these long developing deep routes.

Don't even get me started on all the 3rd and short plays were we end up throwing these long low % passes.

I pray to God he is gone after this year if he doesnt field a top 10 offense.

We weren't the best offense... highest scoring, not the best.  Easy to core when defense gets turnovers like crazy and you always have a short field...

2015's Offense is a giant outlier to begin with, plus we led the league in forced turnovers if im not mistaken either.

Im fully confident Shula steps down this season and Lance Taylor is eventually given the O.C position for next year.

Barring a mid season firing.

I would honestly like to read your summary of his career body of work in Alabama, Tampa, and Carolina.

So many people love to bring up his tenure at Tampa and Alabama as if they were failures without any real knowledge of each situation so it would be great to hear from someone that does.

This is going to be unpopular on here but some of you need this refresher.

First a little background:

  • The panthers front office has never invested this much in the draft on offensive players in team history.
  • Never had we acquired 3 offensive players within the first 64 picks before this weekend.
  • Dating back to 08 the only offensive players we have taken in the first 2 rounds are.....

Hurney Era:

Stewart,Otah,Clausen, Cam, Amini Silatolu

Gettleman Era:

 Benjamin and Funchess.

Next to closest to being 2nd rounders dating all the way back to 08 were late thirds in Armanti (89th in 09) and Turner (92nd in 14).

Now lets check out the offensive tackles he's had the past 4 seasons. (The Shula era)

In order of snap counts

  • Remmers 2566
  • Oher 1367
  • Nate Chandler 1225
  • Byron Bell 1009

FWIW its worth in that same time frame due to injuries Cam has only seen the same 5 in front of him 60% or more of his snaps in 1 season. That was in 2015, where we went 15-1!

So, just one quick question for those who make comments like I have no faith in Shula to utilize players like McCaffrey and Samuel?

When has he had players this caliber before and not made the most of their talents?

Worried it will take long to develop them and incorporate their talents? Look no further than Benjamin's rookie year.

Heres another fun fact. Devin Funchess 9 career TD's is only 2nd to Amari Cooper from the 15 draft class receivers.  Funchess also has the highest percentage 1st down percentage  (82% or 44 of his 54 career receptions ) of any receiver from his draft class. He was also only 20 years old when we drafted him. Sound familiar?

I agree, in large part. I think what we have to hang our hat on, is the fact that the writing seems to be on the wall. If our offense fails again, Shula is gone and I think he knows it. I think he assumed that they could keep doing the same things, last year, as in 2015 and we would continue to dominate. He knows now that isn't the case.

If you have been keeping up with the conversation Shula not only knew other teams would figure things out but he said as much and wanted for example a second tight end for the offense last year but didn't get it. For what is worth the offense has already been evolved on paper before the draft so that we found players who will fit the scheme rather than what people think which is that Shula will have to figure how to use Mccaffrey. He already knows that.

You mean excuses?

The OP is not worth debating.

To have that viewpoint, you literally have to ignore the facts.

You mean ignore the facts that Shula has sucked his entire career besides one year and that no other team would have hired him as an OC?

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt now. Why? Because setting out now with a negative attitude serves no purpose. Off-season is for wishful thinking.....why the fug would I mope about it for months?

Understanding Shula sucks and having realistic expectations is not exactly moping. I did all my moping when he was promoted. I'm over it now. All I can do is pray Shula gets fired or by the grace of God wakes up one morning with an innovative explosive genius offensive mind. Not holding my breath on that.
