So much for extra practice

Hell, six weeks ago, people were wondering if Fox was working them too hard because players were getting hurt in TC.

Dude, I love you but...I have never ever worried that Fox was OVERworking the team...EVER. I've always thought it was the other way...every year...for me.

I think he is so paranoid of injuries that he underworks them at times. Of course I have no proof of that but why have they gone less and less in all the workouts every year? Someone put up a link shortly after this TC showing that it's been on a gradual decline every year. Especially this year, they are installing a new defense, so SHORTER TC?????

I know they are still practicing even when they break camp early, but the time to work on fundamentals/basic installation is TC...not when you have to gameplan for games and most of your practices are (or should be) game specific.

Heck, give them five days off on the bye week, let the heal up and get their heads right about what they are supposed to be doing. And every person on that team better be watching the Redskins play the Bucs this weekend, because that's our next two opponents.

Maybe you haven't, but there were some threads during TC about whether Fox was running them too much and maybe that's why people were getting hurt. Anyway, I doubt there is much difference between the last few practices down at Wofford and the first few practices back at BOA.

As far as the trend for shorter camps go, that's pretty much league wide, not just specific to the Panthers. In fact, the Panthers are about the only ones left that don't have their players sleeping in hotel rooms or some other facility that's much more comfortable than those Wofford dorms. Some teams don't even leave their regular practice fields anymore.

One other thing...this bye week is shorter than usual anyway, because they last played on Monday night instead of Sunday.

Carolina has and does run one of the most physical training camps and practices in the NFL....at least that is what Dan Morgan said. He said they were often worn down at the end of the season because of it...and that other teams (including NE) were nowhere near as physical and grueling.

Take it for what it's worth.

I think he gave them an extra day before they started practicing for the Cowboys game but that's normal for teams playing Monday night I believe.

I think a fair amount do still go away to TC but it's true that more have TC at facilities at/near their stadium than they used to.

Either way, I could be way off base as far as the correlation, or it could not matter at all. Certainly, it's more worthy of questioning than Fox's non-committal press conferences or his clapping and gum habits as far as it relates to team performance. :P:D

Good to know. I wonder if he bases that on talking to friends of his around the league or just the two he has experienced (Saints and Panthers).

God, don't even get me started on people complaining about Fox's PC's. I just can't believe that there are so many fans that still haven't figured out Fox's attitude when it comes to the press. It's been documented over and over that he tries to give confusing answers on purpose. It has also been documented over and over that he will ream his team a new one after a loss, yet people still assume that he is the same when the cameras aren't rolling. And none of it really has anything to do with whether he can turn things around or whether he gets fired or not. That will be determined by wins and losses, period.

When an organization like the Panthers try to keep everything close to the vest, it can't be helped that every single little thing that is seen is blown up and overly exaggerated and analyzed.

Now, I have no intention to throw my own team under the bus, declare the season over, and join the "Fire this, Hire that" bandwagon. All that can wait until the season's over when we all know how the season turned out. Right now, all I care about right now to learn how to find a way to win the next game.

I disagree. If people would use a little more common sense, it would help a lot. The ironic thing, is that if Fox actually behaved the way a lot of fans want him to behave when the cameras are rolling, he would have been fired long ago. We have all seen what happens when coaches go all Denny Green or Jim Mora. They go from respected head coach, to the laughing stock of the NFL in the blink of an eye.

You've got it right Outlaw4. What is he supposed to say, "Alright folks of the press, here's what we're going to do next game and these are the players we'll be trying to make the most use of"?

I'm frustrated and disappointed in the season so far, and honestly, a bit disillusioned. But Hell or high water, the Panthers are still my team and Fox is their coach, Jake's their starting quarterback, Peppers is still the franchise player and Jerry Richardson is still the guy who took a chance on all of us and brought pro football to NC to stay.

So far this decade, we've had the 9th most playoff games of any team in the league, and John Fox got us to those. Maybe, just maybe, he knows more about football than the rest of us here.

Sure would be nice if he got a move on it to get some wins quick, though.
