You can count on the Carolina Panthers running this play to CMC

I'm not totally sanguine about Shula, but having Lance Taylor on our staff as an Offensive coach gives me a LOT more confidence that we'll find a way to use CMc & Samuel

Shula studied Auburn and other college spread offenses so he would incorporate the zone read for Cam, so there is no reason to believe he can't do the same with CMC and Samuel.

You can count on the Carolina Panthers running this play. Jonathan Stewart and Christian McCaffrey to either side of Cam Newton. Fake the handoff, wheel route to McCaffrey for a big gain.

Will be so difficult to cover. Close your eyes and picture it.

You got it partially right majority of its going to be him going to the flat for the dump-off

#2 WR is going to go deep or in the middle this will vacate the space for McCaffrey big gains from the flat.

With an Olsen Seam route and a Samuel crossing route, or a KB post route and who the hell do you cover? With the added threat of Cam keeping the ball, it becomes an absolute nightmare of a play to defend. I am very excited to see what this Offense can do.

I actually think Shula will do good things this year. He is pretty good when he first starts out creating plays. He just gets too comfortable with them even after opposing teams have figured out how to defend them.

And then run the play again but hand it off to Stewie. And then run the play again but flip it to the left. And then run the play again and have Cam run it.

Yep!  So many different things we can do out of the exact same formation.  Defenses won't have any idea what plays we are going to be running.  In the past, you could look at our formation and know what is coming.  No longer.  This brings an element that will give even the greatest of defenses ulcers.

I just hope our defense is ready to be on the field a lot more, because I have a feeling this offense will have the ability to score quickly and often.

I don't buy into the narrative that Shula wouldn't know what to do with McCaffrey (and Samuels).  IMO, he is able to design good game plans and schemes, his problem is situational play calling and adapting on the fly.

With that said, even if he has no clue himself of what to do, we have a clear blueprint that all he has to do is copy and paste into our playbook.  He doesn't have to be creative, how to best utilize McCaffrey has already been created...and we have one of the practitioners on our staff.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
