Not following your logic. This is going by who was available and where they went.

Not, since we passed Samuel in the 2nd he might would be available in the 3rd.

Not following your logic how do you know for a fact every player we picked wouldn't have gone the very next pick. you don't.

you can't say we would get Samuel with our last pick in the second because we easily could have been the top player on multiple team's boards. Just because those teams didn't draft WR, doesn't mean they didn't value Samuel

You are confused and misunderstanding me.

I agree, you CANT say who values Samuel.

That is why I said you CANT say "hey if we pass on Samuel in the 2nd he will be there in the 3rd".

Basically, you gotta only pick who is available. If you decide to pick someone different than the panthers than you cant magically try to pick them up at a later pick as you said we dont know how other teams valued them.

I take lattimore or hooker at 8, I'm hearing the hamstring issues pushed us away from lattimore, not sure what's the deal with hooker. Knowing that WI ot fell to 32, I may consider trading up ahead of NO to grab him, if not stick with Curtis at 40 since zay jones was gone, 64 Garcia is the only other ot I'd consider at that point, hall I'm cool with, interchange him with a couple other guys sure but not pivotal. Not really too many guys we passed on, Jake Butt would have been nice to grab in day 3

Going into the draft I felt like our needs were RB, DE, WR, TE, OT, S, and maybe CB.

Going into the draft we had 8 picks.  I really don't expect much in the last two picks so now I'm down to 6 picks for 7 needs.

Speaking of the 6th and 7th round I really don't expect to find much so going K and FB might work out ok.  I would guess those two positons along with punter and long snapper are the positions you might actually get a top 3 prospect that late in the draft.  The chance of any other position becoming a decent starter is a lot less then a lot people around here realize.  As someone earlier said we could have maybe drafted the Zane kicker in the 6 and then the same FB in the 7th.

Even though we drafted 3 CBs last year I thought we might still draft one this year.  Considering this was a deep CB draft and the fact that nickel types tend to go later I thought there might be good value in rounds 4-6 so we drafted one in the 5th.  Seems like a decent pick for where we drafted.

At 8 it seemed like on offense Fournette, McCaffrey, or Howard.  Maybe Adams or Thomas on defense if they fell but I wasn't expecting that.

I thought we might go Zay Jones or safety at 40.  Zay was off the board but there were several safeties available at that point such as Obi, Jones, or Williams.

64 seemed like the place for a WR.  We seemed interested in some of the slot/returner types such as Henderson or Taylor.

I'm not a big fan of trading up so at 98 I could go after a DE, Lawson or Wise were there.  At 115 theree were still a good many TEs on the board at this point.  I have my choice of Roberts, Butt, Kittle, or Leggett.

Putting all of this together

8- McCaffrey

40- Williams

64 - Taylor

98 - Wise

115 - Kittle

152 - Elder

192- Gonzalez

233 - Armah

This gets us a safety and TE but we lose the OT prospect.  The problem with OTs is they are almost always over drafted.  Unless you have a top 5 pick and their is an elite prospect on the board you always feel like you are reaching.  There always seem to be a more exciting pick to be had.  With all of that being said at some point you have to try.  I really didn't mind the Moton pick.  Seems to have some potential.

If we put him back in the list you have to find a new spot to draft a WR. I think a punt returner, slot type of guy was higher on our list then some thought.  More so then safety or TE.

Also we could have traded down in the first to around 15 and got Howard, Njoku, or Hooker

15 - Hooker - Safety

40 - Samuel - WR

55 (from the trade down) Hunt - RB

64 Moton

98 Wise

115 Kittle

That would have been interesting also.

I like our draft but maybe :

Barnett and Dalvin Cook wouldn't hurt. But, not like we even consider Cook bc of JR

If you want to include Dalvin, who might not have been on our board, you could do this:

Trade down to 15-16 pick up 55

15 - Hooker -S

40 - Cook - RB

55 - Kpassagnon - DE

64 - Moton - OT

98 - Westbrook - WR ,not sure if he was on our board either

115 - Kittle - TE

That is actually a pretty tempting draft.
