if this kid can keep up with gano, you cut gano and save the $3m

THIS^

Blowing kicks in clutch situations + some extra FA money for roster cuts = byebye Gano

Also I think this is the first kicker we have ever drafted (pls correct me if I am wrong but I couldn't find one we drafted).

zane gonzalez had a very bad pro day. he was missing kicks from both hash marks.

this kid did not. could be a reason the panthers worked him out.

If this is true, then it just reinforces the "clutch" gene people are talking about. In a high pressure situation with all eyes on him, he outperformed the guy that most considered the best available at the position.

For anyone to step up in that kind of situation is a good thing. Shows they potentially have what it takes.

I don't know if he'll make the team, but I do believe that Gano needed the competition.

What some of you people are missing(as per usual) is that this kid killed it at the combine and they were asking him about it trying to get him to call out the other kickers who were there but he didn't. As in...everyone knew he blew them away and the kickers struggled a bit except for this guy.

And his pro day was one of the best for a kicker as well.

Surprised this thread got buried so quickly. If not for crucial missed kicks by Gano last season, we could have won 2 or 3 more games. Including a heartbreaker in our opener that sunk our season before it ever really began.

I've defended Gano before last season, but no more, we need to upgrade, especially considering he is currently one of the highest paid kickers in the league. Dave took a gamble with that contract knowing his history, unfortunately it looks like that was a dud.

This pick had to be made.

Absolutely.  No guarantees with UDFA either since the guy can go anywhere he wants.  Plus using the pick locks us into 4 years on the cheapo salary.  He's also from Atlanta so will want to kick Falcon ass along with Cam and our other Georgia boys.

I LOVE it.

Gano is actually a good kicker.  He just had a bad year last season, which absolutely justifies bringing in competition.  But do not just assume this guy was brought in as a definite replacement.  Anyone we were going to take at that point was going to have a hard time making the roster, so taking a flier on a raw kicker was a smart move.

If he wants to beat out Gano, he's going to have to kill it in preseason.

In what way is an 88% career average raw? What does raw even mean for a kicker, does he need to brush up on his routes?

Graham was "oh no Gano" before we signed him. The Redskins couldn't wait to get him out of town. We knew he had issues with consistency. Please don't try to rewrite history like he was a top kicker or something. He's a good guy, and all, but his negatives have always been known.

Actually he had a career average of 72% (43 of 60).    He only had one good year, which was last year.  That's when he had an average of 88%.

2016 - 64%

2014 - 61%

2013 - 71%

Career long of only 53 yards

This is not an established kicker.  He had only one year of real success.  Hopefully he is developing, so is not a finished product.  Anyone thinking he is a lock to beat out Gano may be seriously disappointed.

Every year he has been with us he's been over 80%, which is not bad.  Is he great or irreplaceable? Certainly not.  But saying he sucks is actually rewriting history.
