Can someone ease my mind on C. Samuel?

I'll just say this. He was the 5th WR to come off the board. Not bad at 40, considering 3 were gone by 9 and we know now none of those were in play above McCaffrey or Howard. The only receiver we could have possibly coveted above him was Zay Jones from picks 10-64.

Also, freefua of all people complaining about this is simply mind numbing.

You scream like a banshee about getting Cam help, and because we didn't draft your perceived guy, we blew it? Get a hold of yourself bud.

So let's just stick anyone with two legs around Cam?

You'll be the first person to say we need to do a better job of surrounding Cam with weapons if this pick doesn't work out.

We wouldn't be in this predicament if we properly addressed this need in FA with say a DJax. You guys who keep going "oh well who should we have drafted" every year don't realize if this team would've drafted properly way back (Allen Robinson over Ealy) we wouldn't even need to reach for guys like Samuel.

Obvioulsy I hope the kid works out and becomes a great playmaker but from what I see I have my doubts. Just like I had my doubts with Funch and Ealy.

Fine, I respect your opinion. However, we can't complain about the past when Gettleman now addresses play makers for the offense. Samuel was not a reach he was always mocked to the late 1st-early 2nd. Playing Desean Jackson a big contract at 30 would not be ideal, what if Funchess and KB have a big year, where will the money be to pay a WR entering his prime while Desean is at the twilight of his career?

I would have liked to get DJax, but it just wasn't realistic. Plus, as good as he is, two things immediately come to mind. He's only getting older, and why does he keep bouncing from team to team the last few years?

I'm of the mindset that I am very optimistic for our offense considering the additions we've made in the first two rounds alone.

I still want another TE, but beyond that, I can't say we aren't trying to help Newton. And you know damn well I've been talking about that for a long time. I think it took too long to get to this point, but that's for another discussion. Either way, again, I'm optimistic.

People are just freaking out because we didn't get the WR they wanted. It's ridiculous how they are just so sure they are right, when these guys spent hours and hours looking over every single one of these guys.

Can people not just be happy we got some playmakers and that they have some real potential instead of armchair GMing about how they would have approached the offseason? People were saying we should take Godwin at the beginning of the second, and he falls to mid third. Sometimes, your evaluations are just wrong.

They are called prospects for a reason. If Samuel caught everything away from his body and had superb route running, he would have been taken in the first. I mean, c'mon people. The guys a baller who put OSU on his back. Enjoy the moment.

People on this site get too damn concerned anytime a player shows a weakness in his game. Last year people lost their minds about the Bradberry pick. There were many valid reasons for concern. But did it work out?

I've also seen players like Sam Bradford or Reggie Bush be clear franchise changing can't miss pro bowlers coming into the draft. And for every reason in the world they had to draft them, they ultimately came up short.

Whoever it was that mentioned Cobb made a great comparison. Both player a lot of RB and both look like shift slit recievers (Samuel with way more speed) that have to work on their hands.

The point is, you can literally be down on any pick every made. This kids are 20-22 years old and have never played professionally before. Correcting their weaknesses is now their full time job. If this kid loves the game as much a second everyone that knows him says he does, then he will be hard at work on his hands.

So you can't get mad and panic that he was drafted too early and hate the pick and make this whole draft miserable for yourself or you can swallow a pride pill and say "that's not who I wanted but he's a panther now" and instead of focusing on all of his weakness, look at his potential ceiling as well. Because this kid has a very high ceiling. He's lightning fast for a WR but he doesn't run like a WR after the catch. He turns back into a speedy RB in the open field. I'm not saying he is the great Smitty but that's what made Smitty great. 89 was a good WR and the best WR in the league after the catch.

Thats the potential this kid has once the ball is in his hands.

I pray this pick works out I just have my doubts. I'm not a huge Samuel fan that's all (obviously I could end up being completely wrong and I hope I am).

DJax really didn't get all that big of a contract and the way it's structured makes it basically a 2 year deal. We had no problem paying someone like Munnerlyn when we could've paid Jax. Desean really hasn't shown any signs of slowing down either.

Im the biggest KB fan and fully expect him to come back like he looked at the start of 2015 now that he's one year removed from ACL injury.

It'll be interesting to see how we use all these moving parts. I have high hopes for Charles Johnson, we have a lot of pieces that should potentially open things up for him as I believe he beats out Funchess for that #2 spot.

we got the two WR types we needed a smooth route guy in MaC and an explosive blow the top of the defense type in Samuel. Samuel is raw as a WR but he's a blue chip player and is the third fastest guy in the draft.

Also, he can play RB in a pinch and give the offense a different look from week to week. Imagine trying to game plan for these guys. We can do so many things with MaC and Samuel and change offensive strategy from one week to the next. Hard to game plan for us.
