Damiere Byrd

I urge you all not to overlook him at this point just because we drafted Samuel. Curtis was drafted to play slot with some snaps in the backfield, not on the outside. Ginn was mainly a field stretcher on the outside, not in the slot, so we still need to replace his role on the outside and Damiere is definitely still in play here. If anything Samuel is replacing Philly in the slot and Funch's snaps in the slot from last year, not Ginn. Of course we know he's fast at 4.31 but he's not an outside receiver like Damiere or Ginn was. Of course he's just a 3rd year UDFA and we don't even know if he'll ever do anything but I will say don't assume that he'll be an odd man out as a result of this draft.

Byrd will make the roster, like you mentioned he will be replacing Ginn.

Benjamin

Samuel

Funchess (I'd give him this year to really push forward but he has to earn it)

Shepard (He brings more than what some realize, plus, it's a multi-year contract)

So, Byrd will have to beat out C. Johnson and Bersin, which could happen.  Or maybe we make some moves post-draft.

If you would have told me 2 seasons ago that the Vikes fantasy sleeper Johnson was going to be 4th-5th on our depth chart the night after the draft, then I would be excited about the offense's potential.

I also believe CJ2 can fill Ginn's role on the outside

I don't plan on overlooking Byrd because we drafted Samuel.  I plan on overlooking him because last year he had exactly 1 catch more than I did.  Hope he catches on somewhere but the talent on this team is rising and the competition is tough.

    • Yea I have it.  When it flares it can be very severe.  I had an extended hospitalization a couple years ago and it took a while to recover.  Can’t imagine trying to deal with that as a pro athlete.  It’s hard enough as a desk jockey.
    • I think the difference is that The Golden Calf of Bristol and Cam were just big personalities with big time talent (The Golden Calf of Bristol just lacked any consistency, leading to most of us hating him because it felt like he pulled big plays out of his ass). Sanders is a good talent who is completely full of himself and the ego feels unearned. You should WANT to change the bad culture of the losing franchise you expect to go to as a top pick...but that's a thing you keep to yourself or articulate well enough that it doesn't come off as "we're doing poo my way, if you don't like that, don't draft me".  You don't create an entire room touting yourself as legendary when you did absolutely nothing legendary at the collegiate level. Nobody is going to be fondly remembering Shadeur Sanders the college QB. Johnny Football is there, Cam is there, Vince Young is there, RGIII is there, The Golden Calf of Bristol is there.   Sanders needs humility and to pry himself away from his father. His father is going to tank his career before it is even started.    Sanders may bounce around the league as a backup for a few years, he'll play in select games and look like a backup but he'll have that one game where he pops off and that game will be used to say "see?! He's great!" and then he'll get the start and never live up to that game again.
    • This came up from out of nowhere and sent me down a hole of FNM.   Dudes were amazing and Angel Dust was just peak
