McCaffrey: Sport Science

Recommended Posts

I haven't been this excited about a pick in awhile. I think McCaffrey is going to be an amazing offensive weapon for Cam.

Throw in Olsen, Stew, and a finally healthy KB, plus possibly a finally 'put it all together' Funchess and maybe another draft pick at WR?

Our offense is going to be loaded.

If he'd never played RB at Stanford (3600+ yds. in his last 25 games), but had been just a WR, I think he still may have been a 1st round pick. Just get the ball in his hands with a tiny bit of space, and if there's none there he'll use those quick feet and find some.

Don't feel like starting another thread, but here is a pre-draft article breaking down how much of a badass CMC is: https://www.fantasyguru.com/articles/yards-created-christian-mccaffrey

To be honest, it was quite hard to find two “bad” statistical games to sample for McCaffrey. Over the last two seasons combined, McCaffrey has gained at least 110 yards from scrimmage in 22-of-25 games with 10 occurrences over 200 all-purpose yards. What’s amazing, too, is McCaffrey gained 150 scrimmage yards in all but three games in 2016

alone (out of 12 contests).

This all goes without mentioning that McCaffrey was also an unbelievable return-man while at Stanford, too. Among college kick return-men with at least 50 career attempts, McCaffrey ranks 45th since 2000 in yards per kick return (26.4). For reference, Rotoviz’s Jon Moore wrote about the hidden value of college Special Teams stats in 2015.

From a counting statistics perspective, McCaffrey is one of the most prolific college rushers—and receivers—of our time. In fact, he is one of just 12 running backs since 2000 to run for at least 3,500 yards and have over 1,000 receiving yards in a career. Among players on that list, McCaffrey leads everyone in both yards per carry (6.2) and yards per reception (12.1) for their respective careers. That’s absurd.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
