With this evolution, how much do we go under center vs shotgun?

I said this in another thread. When we drafted Cam people were desperate to make comparisons and it turns out ...Cam doesn't really have a comparison. 

I don't think McCaffrey has a comparison either and I think once he starts gelling with this offense all of this hoopla about him not being a fit is going to go out the window. 

For Christs sake, when you break it down we gave Cam another weapon. Isn't that what everyone is always screaming for?

Of course he will need that kind of system to be successful, just like they ran at Stanford. Except guess what, the system they ran at Stanford was nothing like that.

I think it's more about finding balance on offense. We will see a mix of quick hits and power runs. That's NE style and its what works.

You can't be a power run, drop back 7 steps and bomb deep passes 100% of the time offense and expect to succeed. Throwing in a sneaky TE screen, or awful WR screen to Ginn once in a blue moon, and only when the offense is struggling to move the ball doesn't work. Because its predictable. Like the rest of the power run game. "Hey, we stopped the read option on 1st and 10, covered the slow developing routes while getting pressure on Cam on 2nd and 8....and now it's 3rd and 8. All out blitz because we know nobody can get open within 5 yards of the LOS, and they're going to send all these skyscraper receivers out 9 yards and have them turn around. We got this."

And when that stops working the solution was get the pass out quicker but the receivers had to run shorter routes to make up for lack of speed, and that resulted in 3rd and 8, but we pick up 6 on a completion to Benjamin who is covered like a blanket and can't get the first.

Alternatively, if you go 100% quick screens, quick passes, no power runs or long pass plays, you get stuck dinking and dunking all game and can't move the ball.

McCaffrey brings a guy who CAN run up the middle, does have SOME power, but also allows a great deal of balance to playcalling. He can get open quick, he is elusive, he is a great runner in space. And its not like we are cutting Stew. He's the power when we need it.

And the best part is, they can be on the field at the same time so the defense truly won't know if it's power run or quick hit play.

I agree that mismatch players excel in spread offenses.  They also work in any other offense as well.  Mismatches aren't universal to spread.

For the opponents of this mindset: take our regular game plan from last year on a passing down, but now add a dynamic athlete who can run the swing pass, or leak through the OL.  He's going to force some openings in the defense.  It's not just what he does with the ball in his hand, it's the threat as well.

Do they ever?.  How many years we have been in existence and most writers know jack-shyt about the Panthers.  I was not 100% on board with this pick. However, the possibilities are endless with him.  If he fails as a RB we have a damn good slot receiver.

The apple don't fall to far from the tree.  His dad was a very good player for many years.  Maybe not a super start but damn good.  Just like ol' Ricky Proehl.

Now we that we have a quick skill player at HB, it really would be nice to find one at the WR position. If we took one in the 2nd or 3rd round I think he would actually have a chance to beat out Funchess on the depth chart and probably start this season.

The middle of the field is going to be wide open for CMC to do his thing. Opposing Ds will have to cover Greg with their best coverage LB or safety. If they don't Greg will torch them all day. McCaffrey should be able to have a field day against lesser LBs and safeties.
