Y'all are really over hyping CmC.....also it has nothing to do with his skin color, it's the history of "scat backs" in the NFL in general

I guess that would be true if he was just a "scat back". The fact is though, he is the best slot WR in this draft and one of the best return men in the draft. That makes him a legitimate weapon and a good value.

I'm not getting how he's the best slot receiver with guys like zay jones in the draft, that's one of the examples I'm referring to. Until it can be determine whether he can run in between tackles at the NFL level that's what his label would be imo, he proves that, then we're talking David Johnson/Levon Bell potential.

i think if he can be darren sproles 2.0, i would be pretty happy. not necessarily elite at anything but a real threat to score in a lot of ways. darren sproles absolutely had to be accounted for at all times in his prime.

i most doubt anyones ability to be a good returner for us because the best anyone can do is to get good returns called back due to penalties.

'short pass game'...have you seen how inaccurate Newton is with the short game?

This is how reasoning like the above breaks down logically:

"We shouldn't try to improve our short passing game because we don't have a very good short passing game."

Did you watch him run routes and catch at the combine? I defy you to show me somebody who had a better combination of route running and hands. The ball literally never hit the ground when he was going through his drills and his cuts were crisper than any veteran WR on our roster right now.

"But...but Gettleman is TERRIBLE at evaluating offensive talent!!" .. Oh so you're better at it?

Also I hate all the he's only the next Darren Sproles talk:

1. Even if he was, a Sproles would be huge for our offense.

2. I might be ignorant on this but I don't think Sproles plays the slot. Even if he does he's not nearly as good at catching and route rouning as CMC is.

3. Darren Sproles was never, not a single time in his life, 6-ft tall and 200+ lbs.

It amazes me how CMC is being spoken of using terms like elite, best 'blank' on our team and guaranteed success, yet the kid hasnt even played a damn down in the league. However, when Mr. #1 overall was selected...this place turned into fuging Rosewood Florida. All of a sudden, we all should be in agreement, that this kid is a stone lock to perform exactly as he was able to in college or be labled ignorant or a hater. Funny that. Guess CMC is going to 'make the Panthers great again'.
For the record, I hope he balls out, but some of you are pathetic.

Wow, some of y'all sho' is sensitive.

He can't be dismissed as a bad pick for the same reason he can't be crowned yet. I think the point of this thread was people dismissing him because he's unlike anything we've ever had at the position and may not realize what we've got or how to use it based on that. I know we've had some "duh" moments, but does anyone honestly think we would spend the 8th overall pick on a player like this with no specific plan to leverage his skills? If anything, this is make or break for Shula (and by extension Rivera) if they can't put this kid in a position to make plays.

yeah i did and i said the same thing at first, but that's also without a cb in is face jamming him at the line, hes going to lunch on lb's that's a fact but i'll have see him go up against cb's jamming him at the line before i'm sold on him being the best slot guy in the draft. Cooper Kupp is also among that list but his speed isn't ideal catches everything, along with zay jones

Problem is Fournette and Stewart don't really fit the Panthers offensive system but McCaffrey does. He's a much better Runner out of Shotgun sets and his skill set matches what the Panthers try to do out of Shotgun on runs.
