To the nay sayers ... You aren't as informed as Gettleman...

'short pass game'...have you seen how inaccurate Newton is with the short game?  Even Richardson advised on that last year as a thing for him to improve on, and I didn't see that.  If Newton can get the ball into the gut of CMC and then let him do his thing great...but if he is throwing it high/way off balance and CMC has to struggle to get the ball instead of starting to look up field ASAP he's going to have a tough time.  This pick is dependent on Newton improving just as much as anyone else.

Not only did Gettleman and company watch every snap from every game on McCaffrey, they watched his practice tapes thanks to WR coach Lance Taylor.

Also, you can't overlook the intangibles. CMC comes from a pedigree of superb athletes. His father Ed played 13 years in the NFL and won three Super Bowls. His mother was a D1 soccer player. His uncle played basketball at Duke. His grandfather was a medal-winning Olympian sprinter.

Watching a couple of interviews with CMC and you'll see it's clear he loves football. You can tell he has a chip on his shoulder, which is a necessity for any great player. You can't underestimate a player blessed with not only elite athleticism, but the drive to be great and the want to put in the work to get there. I'm confident McCaffrey possesses all of these traits and will be a stud.

Giving him a sure handed guy to receive those short passes can only help, if anything can. You are right, the short game problems do fall almost completely on Cam's shoulders. He's a phenomenal QB but it has been his weak spot. If he can improve that, then the return trip to the big dance will be much easier.

Guest Barry McCaulkinor

Sorry he's a white runningback in a league that moved on 40 years ago. Stupid fuging pick that is likely a byproduct of hiring an ex coach of his. Politics is hopefully going to get some one fired one this fails.

Not a fan of blatant racism in this joint. Cut it out or bye Felicia.

I mean, if we're being honest, he comes to this team and already, ALREADY has the best hands.  Out of anybody and probably a better route runner too.  That is what you need to take away from this, our best hands and route running are now at RB.  He's got patience and intelligence.  He is constantly a threat.  He'll spread defenses thin especially if/when he's lined up in the slot.  I'm not completely sold but I don't feel terrible about it either.  I feel about the same as when we took Luke Kuechly, so I'll take that feeling.

And hurn dog  knew more than Huddlers too. How did that work out? Its his job along with the scouts to know more than us armchair GMs.

So hope we find ways to use Reggie Bush lite unlike we use Stewie and Fozzy. This pick will come down to Shula figure out how to use him.

Still miffed on what they didn't see in Hooker.

Call me a YouTube scout or whatever you want. I think it was another wasted pick personally. We have drafted backup players two of the last 3 years. Shaq which the huddle applauded and Vernon butler and add in "change of pace" slash and here we are. I don't care if you watched his baby film. I see your roster and not landing a full on starter for atleast the duration of his rookie contract was dumb. Drink the gettle-kool-aid you want to. I think his connection to the coaching staff and "high character" played way to much into this pick.

Dont get me wrong kid is not a bad football player. I don't hate him as a prospect but at 8...our needs...stewie replacement...I would have much rather dropped a 2 and went and got Fournette.

Problem is Fournette and Stewart don't really fit the Panthers offensive system but McCaffrey does. He's a much better Runner out of Shotgun sets and his skill set matches what the Panthers try to do out of Shotgun on runs.

    • The problem with Tmac im almost certain he will go top 5 and I can't see either Jacksonville or New England passing him up.   I think in a perfect world we draft either Tmac or Hunter, but they interviewed Prime on Speak today and he said he will have a say in where Sanders and Hunter play. So I'm not even sure if Hunter is a option now lol.
    • Trading Deontae was 100% the right call, as he's not a #1 either and we weren't going to re-sign him, but we still got an awful return for him (thankfully the Mingo trade made up for it). And yes, we need that smaller shifty WR, but we also need a true outside #1 as neither XL or Coker are that. That's why I think T-Mac is a perfect fit for us in the early 1st round as that outside #1, Coker and XL could both play on the other outside and in the slot, and find a small shifty WR to work from the slot too, with Sanders, Brooks, and now Hubbard with the extension, plus our OL, is an offense that can succeed with a good game manager type of QB and not need a superstar.
    • Put the pipe down. You are what your record says you are. They need talent and a lot of it. Brown is set but he can use upgrades all around him. ARob is fine but a short timer so competition is needed as a hedge against him chasing money next year. They need a bunch of LBs. Jewell is stopgap and Shaq is losing a step. He's the smartest of the group but he can no longer hang with a TE. They are playing harder yes, but it's due to grit and pride more than skill. They are finally getting tired of getting their asses kicked. Unfortunately for them the beatings will continue until moral improves.
