Edelman is an almost perfect comparison based on size/speed. He was drafted in the seventh round.

Hoover really isn't a good comparison. He was a bull in a china shop. McCaffrey is nowhere near the force he was. In any event, he went undrafted.

The only player with the same size/speeed/strength/skills I can think of like McCaffrey even mildly successful was Reggie Bush. If I'm really generous, I might use Gayle Sayers as a comparison. This style of runner tends not to thrive. When they have done well, they haven't held up well.

I gotcha but we need weapons.. it was him or Howard!!..so I am good with it.Hopefully we find a good TE in the 2nd..

It's official! McCaffrey is going to light it up & be all-pro his rookie year! Why? you ask. Because Pete Prisco grades the pick a D. :)

CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco has made is clear he's not a fan of drafting running backs high in the past.

So, despite getting burned for giving the Cowboys a D last year for drafting Ezekiel Elliott No. 4 overall, Prisco continued the trend on Thursday, handing the Panthers a D for picking Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey eighth overall in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

"I like his skill set with the way the game is played, but again, it's a back in the top 10," Prisco wrote. "Hate that."

Times like these make me feel so much better about being a casual fan when it comes to draft prospects and guys out of college. I pay attention to all the threads and think about who I'd like, but I never get so invested to a point where I poo on the decision made by the FO and it ruins my fuging day/week/season whatever. I wanted Fournette, but I assumed he would be gone when #8 came around, I'm glad we picked MCM though and I'm hopeful that he can continue his success playing for us and getting us closer to the SB, but I would be glad with any pick we made, because it's a new face and new possibilities for the team. It must be draining to put so much effort into hating on a guy who you honestly have no idea how he is going to perform when the time comes.

Oh and P.S.

fug anyone who's main gripe is because the dude is white, it's 2017, I think we can all agree that many different races have had success at many different positions on the football field, and I hope that CMC beasts just so you have to own up to that bullshit racist ass argument.

my main gripe isnt that he's white (though its a pretty big thing, the best white RBs are mediocre gimmick players), its that we picked the 4th most talented RB at number 8 when we needed secondary help and the drafts best CB and FS were on the board.

guess we're gonna see more julio 300 yard games. you wont see mr. swiss army knife returning many punts next year.

This pock has so much upside. I don't understand how anyone can be upset, we get a great pass  catcher who automatically has the best hands on the team. A kick returner who's instantly the best kick returner since Steve Smith. And a guy who can take handoffs, make defenders miss and get 3 yards a carry off of decision making alone? On a team where  our WRs cannot catch aids from a streetwalker in South Africa? Come on now.  Come on. Put it all into perspective, it's a good pick.

i'm kind of warming up to this pick after i found out he has an nfl pedigree

Yup meng.  And duuuude, one of the offenses that's hard to forget is Elway-Davis-Smith-McCaffrey in the 90s.

I'm really stoked to see what his kid can do.

He's not a gimmick player just because he's versatile and his pop played in the NFL for 13 years. CMC is legit, whether you like it or not.

Love Cam but he's gonna have to get used to the height differential between McCaffrey and the rest of the WR core.  He's not Steve Smith who can jump 5 feet in the air for those high bullets Cam throws.  It's going to take a lot of reps for Cam to get used to going through his progressions ready to throw to wither a 6'5 WR or 5'11 slot receiver.  I'm optimistic he can do it, because he knows he has to and he can.  It's just gonna take some time.
