In the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft , The Carolina Panthers select Christian McCaffrey

This is a terrible pick, IMO. McCaffrey is a 2nd round pick at best, not a feature back, and his absolute highest ceiling is Sproles.

I hate this pick, it just strikes me as Shaq Thompson-esque, except on the offensive side of things.

Hope to God I'm wrong, but I would far rather have had Barnett or Lattimore or even Howard.

Shaq isn't bad?

No he isn't, and that's kinda my point. I don't think McCaff is bad, I just see a handful of players I wished we would have taken ahead of him. I don't think he's going to horribly bust, I just don't see him as worth a #8 pick. Bottom of the 1st to Middle of the 2nd is where I had him.

The comparison is more of the swiss army knife thing. Shaq was a S/LB hybrid, McCaff is a WR/RB hybrid.

Took me a bit, as I was watching the NFLN coverage, but switched over to ESPN's to check their coverage of our pick and they actually interviewed CM.  I was excited just watching it.  He was so giddy to be picked by us, was smiling the entire time, and he said all of the right things...  also like that Mayock pointed out that he thinks CM is a more athletic LeSean McCoy.

Shaq is a stud.

Only issue for Shaq is Thomas Davis is a bigger one.  Davis literally has played his best ball the past couple seasons

Landon Collins was on the board when we took Shaq. So was Damarious Randall. If you don't think having a stud safety outweighs what Shaq brings, idk man.

Again, neither Shaq or McCaff is bad, IMO. Just there were better players available.

I didn't say that.  I haven't been a supporter of Dave's habit of drafting guys like Butler and Shaq that get stuck from day 1 in backup roles because of talent ahead of them.

but Shaq is a young stud is all I am saying.  TD has just been a beast of late.  Can't really take TD and Luke off the field
