ESPN is dying because they paid a poo ton for the NBA and people started cutting the cord. they bet on the fact that subs would go up and it tanked. its hard to cry for the network as a whole because they did this to themselves, they are by far the biggest reason your cable bill is so high.

The NBA is a drop in the bucket compared to what they are paying for all of the other rights they acquired recently (SEC, NFL MNF, etc). They just couldn't afford paying for these rights anymore when their subs are dropping every year due to  people dropping cable or dropping ESPN from their package (which cable companies now offer).

Kannel is gone as well.

I actually DVR their show, and thats how i found out...  Adnan was hosting alone.  The last week or so, they've only had Kanell with rotating hosts, so i thought maybe Kanell was coming in the wide shot later, but immediately noticed Adnan opened with "welcome to ESPN Radio" instead of the show's name.  All of their show signage was gone too.  Then he opened by saying Kanell had been laid off and looked like he was fighting back tears.  He said Russillo would be back next week, but still...  it's crazy to see such visible people lose their jobs in such a public way.  They have been ruthless.

Yeah Disney is killing them with a thousand cuts

It's actually because of cable cutters, and that they have a bunch of very expensive TV contracts that are killing them with the cable cutting going on.  so they are making cuts anywhere they can.

disney isn't saying fug ESPN writers, they are just trying to get it to make a profit again.

Sometimes I would go to Espn.com and see them pushing some boring WNBA story on the front page that I know 90% of people are rolling their eyes at just like me and be like "Fug, how do they get away with this poo?"

I see now that they haven't. Sucks that it's the little guys paying the price, but hard to feel too bad when a lot of the programming and "reporting" have become nearly unbearable corporate agenda pushing bullshit.

Also, fug cable companies.

Lol, are people really making this political?  Unreal.

I think it's pretty simple...  they made their product more about arguing, blabbering, opinions, and personalities rather than actual NEWS.  With the rise of social media "reporting" and the overall evolution of sports media, they quickly realized their idea of where the industry was going was seriously flawed.  They overplayed their hand and now we're seeing the aftermath.
