Bingo.

Once people realize this dieting becomes a lot easier. You realize quickly what your body needs vs what it wants. Then it's just a matter of having the self control to fight the want.

Im a big believer in cheat days once a week, assuming you're legit dieting 6 other days. I feel like 6 days is doable and on day 7 you can let go a bit and kill some cravings.

It's not very realistic for someone to start a diet and stick with it forever. So setting up cheat days allows people to let their guard down for a day without feeling like they've just lost control or sabotaged their diet.

Do I need to post some of the pics from McD's that you've sent me?

i said the same thing. i have always thought i'd be the last person in the world to give up meat, but once i committed its been pretty easy. treating your diet purposefully rather than as a source of pleasure is the key - find other sources of pleasure, feed your body what it needs.

My problem is I hate the texture and often taste of most vegetables. I always have since I was a little kid. They have to cooked a certain way or hidden inside other food for me to eat them. My wife actually made a protein shake using spinach and I tried some, to my surprise it was damn good and you couldn't even taste the spinach.

Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing such a personal story with the masses.

I can imagine how difficult that crossroads was that you were at and congrats on stepping up and making sacrifices at the time in order to better yourself, and be there for your family.

42 is the new 27.... or something like that. Enjoy your day, and may the Panthers not ruin your draft hopes as a gift these next couple of days.

yeah i've had to make myself find things i like. certain things that sat on the fringe for years have become mainstays. i eat a lot of avocado now and a metric poo ton of broccoli and corn. those are the only veggies besides potatoes i really enjoy, so i just eat a ton of them.

Define toxic? Isn't alcohol by most accounts considered to be toxic to the body?

I balance my alcohol intake with my water intake.

i'm sorta being a pain in the ass with the comment, haha. i get your point. i just think too often people excuse partaking partially in poor diet as "balance" when it's really not a good thing to balance your good diet with a bad one.

Yeah definitely. The key as you mentioned is to not treat every meal as a source of pleasure.

food simply treated as fuel for the body is a good way of looking at it.

Ok, I am at a place in my life where I need to change my lifestyle, and in particular, my eating and exercise habits.  I have a plan for exercise, but I have a really hard time with eating.

This plan sounds great, but where do you get the recipes to make all of these healthy meals?  I know there are tons of cook books out there, but finding a good one for a beginner is not easy.  The few I have tried through the years have not been good.  The food is often bland, overcomplicated to prepare, and/or used ingredients that are hard to find or completely unfamiliar.  So is there a specific cookbook or website out their that provides simple, but tasty recipes for beginners?

The motivation for healthy eating is there, but the know-how is not.

Ha well maintenance my bro!

My 8 burger special usually comes in around 3000 calories. Plus, what you don't need see is the caloric deficit I'm in all week!

But god damn those golden arches, so good!
