What does Cam need to get back to previous level?

What I don't understand is that a lot of people will give Cam a pass because of injuries but they are the first to crucify KB after coming back from an ACL. I truly don't know a lot about Shep and CJ2 so I am not that excited about them yet until I see them in a Panthers uniform. I am still on the weird love affair with a Ross or Carlos Henderson type receiver.

There are definitely wide receivers I like in this draft, particularly my favorite is the pretty raw and inexperienced Noah Brown who could develop into a stud and be had in the 4th or 5th, maybe even later. But I like the early talent at other positions too and we can't fill every position early in the draft. If we nab someone on day 2 I'd probably like it, but I have a feeling we go in a different direction early. HB, TE, DE, S, CB probably all more likely than WR at any of our 4 day 1 and 2 picks.

As for Shep and CJ2, I didn't know a lot about Shep either but I've looked into him and I like him. His ST ability is one good thing but I also think he can be a bigger, better, faster, quicker Philly Brown type player for us (who in addition plays ST, part of why we let Philly go).

As for the other Charles Johnson, this kid is f*cking fast, and big for a fast guy, bigger than Teddy. He's not a great route runner yet but neither was Ginn when we brought him in in '13. Not sure really how much of an impact he'll have, but I know this. With the Vikings he was getting open down the field pretty often, but terrible deep ball accuracy from Bridgewater and Bradford made it difficult for him. If there's a QB who can hit him down the field, it's Cam. Maybe just a one trick pony but I think he was a solid flier for us to grab. Yeah, John Ross would be better I'm sure, but I don't see the value in targeting him in the first. If his medicals check out and he slipped to 40, sure. But otherwise, not ideal.

Can't have a thread about Newton without the usual chowder heads chiming in with condescending remarks about how Cam can do no wrong.

If you want an honest discussion about improving this team. First get your head out of your own ass.

Our QB took this team to a nearly undefeated season, and a Super Bowl with an MVP award along the way with Ted Ginn Jr as his #1 WR. Ted..... Ginn....

If Cam looks like poo this year, yeah, I'll be questioning him. But all he's done for this franchise so far, in my mind, he's earned the benefit of the doubt that he can get back to form after the bullshit that transpired in 2016. So let's improve the OL, and get some sensible play calling where we aren't throwing into razor tight windows, and get a run game that isn't Cam Newton, and go from there. All you people that litter threads with condescending remarks about our QB, please kindly f*ck off to the Panthers Facebook page with the rest of the mouth breathing derpers, and let the adults talk.

I would say protection, playcalling/scheme change, and playmakers. Team must be able to protect Cam and run the ball efficiently. OL did a horrible job of picking up the blitz , dealing with  stunts, and delayed blitzes. We like to run the ball, but several times Stewart was stuffed in the backfield or had to break two tackles just to reach the line of scrimmage.

Get rid of the read option and start using Cam's mobility with playaction, rollouts, etc. Go back to a 2 TE set. We have to challenge Dion Jones, Lavonte David, and Stephone Anthony. Ed Dickson is what you would call in basketball "self-check", there is no LB or S in the NFL that is concerned about covering him or him impeding them from getting to Cam or the ballcarrier. By Friday evening, I hope we have a new TE.

Finally playmakers. I still believe in Funchess and KB but we lack a player that can work the middle of the field. We need a combination of a WR, RB, or TE that we can dump the ball off to and move the chains. All our receivers run is out routes and deep comebacks, I don't see us using the middle of the field enough.

Will check out Noah Brown and yeah the only way I get Ross is at 40. I wouldn't mind trading up for Njoku but I wouldn't trade up for Ross due to those medicals. Also great info on Shep and CJ2!

Also Cam is a rhythm player. When we play fast and have him start him out 7/10 or better he becomes deadly. Several games last year he would be 3/11 forcing him to throw low percentage throws or into tight windows. Design more plays to get the ball out of his hands and routes that are shorter. Finally, coaches need to stop running the offense in a way to cater to the defense, i.e waiting for the play clock to run down to 2 seconds so that the defense can get as much rest as possible.

So do you feel like the 2 TE set would be more beneficial to Cam and the offense than a slot WR and going 3 wide? I have been going back and forth. I like the idea of going back to a Shockey/Olsen offense and a power run game but I have been obsessed with a WR with game breaking speed. I feel like if we go to more 2 TE sets we will not value a 3rd WR as much and might go with what we have and pick a WR later in the draft to develop.

@Shufdog sounds like the generic white male Panthers fan that still reminds you anytime Cam throws a bad pass that picking him was a mistake.

How do these people still exist? Like how loathsome of a person do you have to be on a very basic human level to be like that?

We sign Charles Johnson and Russell Shepard two complete scrubs to "help" Cam and people still want to talk about Cam.

Now we have a chance to possibly draft a reliable target like CMC and people are against it? Do you guys truly not get it or what?

People should be banging the table for guys like CMC and Ross. Guys who can actually help this offense. It's unfair to even mention Cam when looking at the garbage they've surrounded him with.

He's lost a lot of weight so his speed won't be a factor. Being healthy is the biggest concern. You could tell he was playing banged up since the minny game last year and not having the super bowl loss over him will be huge. The WRs need to get open, but I think they will improve. All in all, Cam will be fine.

I try to ignore those who constantly berate Cam but would give other QBs a pass. Imagine if Cam had Luck's INT totals. Imagine if Cam had Luck's playoff successes. Cam has made the offense...period! Without Cam our offense would be at the very bottom in the NFL.

Now in saying that, Cam did play injured and looked slow and shell shocked last year. I am just trying to figure out what are the possible pieces we can put around him to make him successful again. Cam has some negatives in his style of play but his positives always outweighed all his negatives by far. Last season was the only season where his positives didn't show.
