High Ranking NFC Personnel Man Thinks 49ers Will Take Patrick Mahomes at No. 2 Overall

Since everyone has a San Fran rumor tonight:

Quote

A high-ranking NFC personnel man responded to my query Monday morning, and the name he gave me for San Francisco's pick was a surprising one:

Patrick Mahomes.

This team source said that he heard over the weekend that the 49ers would take Mahomes at No. 2 overall. Some believe Mahomes to be the best quarterback prospect in this class, so if San Francisco shares that opinion, Mahomes would be just as logical of a selection as Trubisky.http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftrumormill

This is what a pre-draft looks like when a draft doesn't have a QB in the top 10

most people on draft twitter have trubisky/mahomes/watson ahead of where they had goff/wentz last year.

i can see 3 qbs going before the panthers even pick at 8.

Ha!  And then there are these 2 tidbits....Throwing darts to see who wants to trade up.  They are desperate!

Comment on these NFL Rumors

Yesterday, there was a Deshaun Watson rumor for the 49ers. I'd like to point out that all of this could be smoke, with the 49ers, who are desperate to trade down, trying to create interest for the pick. The 49ers would be insanely stupid to take a pedestrian prospect like Trubisky over a better player, as it would echo picking Blaine Gabbert/Blake Bortles over J.J. Watt/Khalil Mack. It would also block San Francisco from ever getting Kirk Cousins, which seems like a strong possibility. -Walter

Uhh... what? If the 49ers take Watson at No. 2 overall, it'll be one of the worst draft picks in NFL history. No team we've spoken to has Watson in the first round, with some of the smarter front offices even slotting him as a third-round prospect. This would also block the 49ers from landing Kirk Cousins next spring. This makes no sense on so many levels. Then again, the 49ers did hire a TV analyst to be their general manager, so all bets are off. -Walter
