Praying for the best or hoping for the worst

truthfully, i'd rather set the bar at a playoff win.

the biggest fear i have is us remaining a mediocre team going into the future. unless fox can turn back into that coach he was when he first started i don't see that happening.

having said all that, i just want to win. i can't say i would want this team to tank. i can't wish for failure. at this point it's all about just going along for the ride. whatever happens i'll deal with. goes along with being a fan. you hope that things can get better but you have no control.

I would rather see the rest of the season be such a dismal failure that it forces a coaching change - because I believe this would ultimatley serve the Panthers best.

I think it's totally inexcusable for a formerly 12-4 team to be mediocre and I think that rests squarley on the shoulders of the coaching staff. I know Hurney has made some questionable moves, but he's also made some brilliant ones. Hurney's job is to supply Fox with talent and Fox's job is to get the most out of that talent. You can't tell me we don't have talent, so the problem is we're not able to get the most out of it.

I'm not saying Fox is a bad coach, in reality Fox is a good coach whose run has ended here. There's a saying that "familiarity breeds contempt" and the veteran leadership on this team is so familiar and comfortable with Fox that they've fallen asleep. Like in any situation, after a certain amount of time things get stale. A new coach would mean that every player would feel the need to re-establish themselves and the coach would come in with no bias toward or pride invested in anyone on the roster, so the new coach could more objectively evaluate our talent and in doing so, get the most out of it.

I'm all for continuity, but not at the expense of results. I would hire the next HC with a plan to keep him for the next 7-8 years. Look at the results the Jets are getting with a new HC and essentially the same team. We all thought McDaniel's was an idiot for chasing Cutler out of Denver, but the Broncos are 3-0. Shanahan would have never chased Cutler out because Cutler was his guy and chasing him out would be an indictment of his own ability to evaluate talent. Peppers is Fox's guy much in the same way and more. Peppers is like a child to Fox - he can't bear to part with him even when Peppers comes out and says he wants to leave.

Fox was the perfect kind of coach to hire for a 1-15 team. He's a very paternal and nurturing coach which is exactly what a talented team with a bruised ego like the 1-15 Panthers needed. You can see it even now, Fox protects his guys to the bitter end - he is loyal to a fault. At this point we need a Bill Parcells, we need a coach to come in here and give this team a swift kick in the ass - I don't think Fox has that in his repertoire.

I feel that we need a change at the top, however I do not want failure, just for failure's sake.

Fox and Hurney both need to be gone....IMO.

There is no heart in this team any longer, and I can't blame that all on the players.

:iagree: i don't think its happened yet. but i think fox is slowly starting to lose the locker room. the first sign of that was captain munnerlyn walking away from fox on the sideline the other night. it seems like this team has no fire anymore, there not playing disciplined.

fox is a great coach and will have a new job within a week. but its time for a new coach with a new attitude to come in and re-light the fire in this team

The Time to lose is now...we still have a great core of players.so the panthers could make a very fast turnaround like the jets.

The only thing i dont wont is a new GM/Coach is to blow everything up.because its not necessary a few players cut a new attitude and this team is back

I get too caught up in the season and the best way for me to approach it is to not set my expectations above the quality of product. Right now we are the worst team in the NFL by a long shot. Will that continue I don't know but I know if this team doesn't play better than it has we are in for a long 3 win season. It's really sad with all this talent and no QB to help win games.

if you thnk jake is the only reason we are losing games then please go pull for another team

Don't forget to factor in the other teams that might have actually gotten better. The Panthers aren't the only team who have fallen, and there are plenty of times who have risen. It skews perspective a bit when looking from one season to another.

Also, if the team fails horribly, that means some of the players may be gone too. I'd hate to see that.
